Natural outdoor photography in one of South West London's finest parks — family sessions, engagement portraits and couple photography with the Thames, Peace Pagoda and Sub Tropical Garden as backdrop.
South West London Park Photography
Battersea Park is one of London's most underrated and visually diverse outdoor spaces. Its 200 acres on the south bank of the Thames contain an extraordinary range of photographic settings within easy walk of each other — the iconic Peace Pagoda rising above the riverside Embankment, the Victorian Sub Tropical Garden with its palms and exotic foliage, the reflective central Boating Lake, the Festival Gardens created for the 1951 Festival of Britain, and the magnificent Chelsea and Albert Bridges bookending its Thames riverfront.
For families, Battersea Park is superb — the park's layout means you can move easily between open meadows, wooded paths, lakeside, formal gardens and the riverside. For couples, the Peace Pagoda at golden hour against the Chelsea Bridge lights is one of London's most beautiful sunset portrait settings. For engagement sessions, the autumn plane tree avenue is a genuinely breathtaking location. I photograph across all of Battersea Park for individual, couples, family, maternity and engagement sessions, and also cover the surrounding areas of Battersea, Clapham, Wandsworth and wider South West London.
Park Locations
The Japanese Peace Pagoda on the north side of Battersea Park stands directly above the Embankment with the Thames behind — one of London's most striking and unusual portrait backdrops, beautiful at golden hour when Chelsea Bridge is illuminated.
Battersea Park's extraordinary Victorian garden feature — exotic palms, banana plants and architectural tropical foliage create a genuinely surprising setting unlike anything else in a London park. Spectacular for portraits in summer.
The central boating lake with its wooded island and the Victorian bandstand create the classic Battersea Park portrait setting — reflective water, mature willows and open parkland combine beautifully.
Created for the 1951 Festival of Britain, the formal garden with its fountains and geometric planting creates an ordered, classical backdrop in the southern section of the park — quieter than the riverside.
The riverside path between Chelsea and Albert Bridges — with views across the Thames to Chelsea Embankment — creates an iconic London riverside setting for couple and engagement photography, especially at dusk.
Battersea Park's central avenue of London plane trees becomes spectacular in October — a long tunnel of amber and gold foliage that is one of South West London's most beloved autumn photography settings.
