Natural elopement, wedding and portrait photography at Malham — outdoor sessions at Malham Cove, Gordale Scar and Janet's Foss in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales.
Book a SessionMalham is one of the Yorkshire Dales' most visited villages — and the extraordinary concentration of natural limestone wonders within a mile of the village centre is unmatched anywhere in England. Malham Cove (the curved 80-metre cliff face, recognisable from Harry Potter), Gordale Scar (the thundering gorge waterfall), Janet's Foss (the fairy-tale woodland waterfall) and Malham Tarn (the upland limestone lake) can all be reached on foot in a half-day circuit from the village. For elopement and portrait photography it is one of the finest locations in the north of England — dramatic, varied and with a quality of light that arrives differently at every visit.
The limestone pavement above Malham Cove — featured worldwide after the Harry Potter connection — is particularly outstanding for couple and elopement photography: the bare limestone blocks and fissures, the wide open sky and the distant Pennine hills create an image unlike any other. I photograph elopements, couples, families and individuals at Malham and across the Yorkshire Dales — Grassington, Settle, Skipton, Harrogate and the wider National Park. I travel across the north of England for portrait and wedding sessions throughout the year.
Intimate elopement ceremonies for two at Malham Cove — licensed and informal ceremonies on the limestone pavement, at Gordale Scar and at Malham Tarn. One of England's most spectacular elopement locations. Legal ceremonies by arrangement.
Documentary wedding coverage for Malham and the southern Yorkshire Dales — intimate licensed venues, the beautiful countryside around Settle, Skipton and Ilkley and the extraordinary National Park landscape.
Engagement sessions at Malham Cove (the famous curved limestone cliff face, 80 metres high), at the extraordinary Gordale Scar gorge, by Janet's Foss waterfall and on the open limestone pavement above the Cove.
Natural outdoor family sessions in the Malham area — the village, Janet's Foss woodland waterfall, the riverside below the Cove and the extraordinary open landscape of this corner of the Yorkshire Dales.
Individual portrait sessions in one of England's most dramatic landscapes — Malham Cove's curved cliff face, the twisted limestone pavement above, the emerald pools at Janet's Foss and the open moorland toward Malham Tarn.
Dog and pet portrait sessions in the Malham landscape — the limestone grassland, the open moor and the riverside footpaths to Janet's Foss are outstanding walking and pet portrait settings.
The extraordinary curved limestone cliff face rising 80 metres above the valley floor — one of England's most iconic geological features and (famously) the inspiration for the 'cliff of stones' in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. The panoramic view from the top across Malhamdale is extraordinary.
The remarkable limestone pavement on the plateau above the Cove — the clints and grykes (blocks and fissures of bare limestone) stretch away toward the horizon creating an alien, otherworldly landscape quite unlike anywhere else in England.
The awe-inspiring gorge of Gordale Scar a mile east of the village — carved sheer-sided limestone walls rising to 100 metres and a waterfall tumbling through the narrow entrance create one of the most dramatic natural portrait settings in Britain.
The beautiful sheltered waterfall of Janet's Foss on the walk to Gordale Scar — a fairy-tale tufa-covered limestone cascade into a crystal pool, surrounded by ash woodland and one of the most naturally photogenic spots in the entire Dales.
Malham Tarn — a rare upland limestone lake owned by the National Trust — and the open moorland of the Dales Way between Malham and Horton-in-Ribblesdale. The tarn and its surrounding moorland create a vast and atmospheric landscape setting.
