Beautiful outdoor photography in one of London's grandest Royal Parks — family sessions, engagement portraits and couple photography amid Queen Mary's Rose Garden, the Boating Lake and Nash's Regency terraces.
North London Royal Park Photography
Regent's Park is one of London's most architecturally splendid Royal Parks. Designed by John Nash for the Prince Regent (later George IV) in the early 19th century, it combines 410 acres of open parkland, ornamental lake, formal gardens and a zoo with one of the most spectacular sequences of Regency architecture in the world — Nash's white stucco terraces along the Outer Circle represent some of the finest Neoclassical design in Britain. For photography, the park offers extraordinary variety within a relatively compact area.
The centrepiece of the Inner Circle — Queen Mary's Rose Garden — is simply one of the most beautiful photography locations in London during its June peak, when over 12,000 rose plants of 85 varieties are in full bloom. Outside rose season, the park's Boating Lake, the Broad Walk avenue, the open meadows and the Nash terraces all provide beautiful, varied settings. Primrose Hill, immediately north, adds the famous London panoramic view to the park's repertoire. I photograph all types of sessions in Regent's Park — family, engagement, couple, maternity, individual portrait — and cover all of North and Central London.
Park Locations
The jewel of Regent's Park — the Inner Circle's walled rose garden contains over 12,000 rose plants in 85 varieties, and is simply breathtaking in June and early July. One of London's finest photography settings in the peak of summer.
The park's large ornamental lake in the southern section — weeping willows, moored rowing boats and the reflective water create a beautifully peaceful portrait setting. The bridge over the lake's narrows is particularly picturesque.
John Nash's magnificent Regency terraces lining the Outer Circle — Cumberland Terrace, Chester Terrace, Cambridge Terrace — their white stucco colonnades and pediments are some of the grandest classical architecture in London.
The long promenade running the full length of the eastern edge of the park — a straight, formal avenue of mature trees with the terraces visible beyond. Beautiful in winter with bare branches, and in spring when blossom lines the walk.
The park's central open spaces — the cricket ground and surrounding meadows — provide wide open landscape settings popular with families, kite flyers and children. The long views and open sky make for beautiful natural light portraits.
Just north of Regent's Park, Primrose Hill's steep grassy hilltop is one of the best panoramic viewpoints in London — the skyline from The Shard through the BT Tower to Wembley arch is extraordinary, especially at golden hour.
