Vertical villages clinging to sea cliffs, lemon terraces, the deep blue Tyrrhenian — wedding photography on one of the most dramatic coastlines in the world.
The Amalfi Coast is one of the world's great spectacles: a UNESCO-listed stretch of the Campanian coast south of Naples where the Lattari mountains descend almost vertically into the Tyrrhenian Sea, and where medieval fishing towns — Positano, Amalfi, Ravello, Praiano — cling to the cliff face in cascades of pink, white and ochre. Weddings here take place on open terraces with the sea directly below, in medieval cathedrals, in villa gardens heavy with bougainvillea and lemon blossom, and on private boats moving slowly along the coast at sunset.
I travel to the Amalfi Coast for destination weddings and understand the particular logistics of this narrow, winding, extraordinary coast: the boat taxis between villages where the road is too congested to use, the early morning light on Positano before the day-trippers arrive, and the specific access rules at venues like Villa Rufolo in Ravello. I work quietly and efficiently within the constraints and the extraordinary visual richness of the Amalfi setting.
My style is documentary and editorial throughout. I capture the schelter, the cliffs above and the sea below, the particular intensity of Italian celebration — the family arrivals, the rooftop aperitivo, the boat journey to the ceremony — and then come into my own fully during the golden-hour portrait session on the terrace above the water. The results are photographs that feel genuinely cinematic, deeply personal and true to one of the most beautiful places on earth.
Each town on the Amalfi Coast has its own distinct geography and character — each one offers something different for your wedding photographs.
The Vertical Town
Positano is the most photographed town on the coast — a near-vertical cascade of pastel-painted houses tumbling down from the road to the shingle beach, with the domed church of Santa Maria Assunta at its centre. Wedding ceremonies in Positano often take place on the terrace of a private villa above the town, with the full sweep of the bay visible below. The boat arrival, the cobbled lanes, the bougainvillea everywhere: Positano is gloriously, unreservedly cinematic.
High Above the Sea
Ravello sits on a ridge 350 metres above the coast and feels like a completely different world: quieter, more refined, with views that stretch the full width of the bay of Salerno. Villa Rufolo is Ravello's most famous venue — an 11th-century Moorish-style villa whose terraced gardens are cantilevered over the cliff, looking south toward the arc of the bay. The belvedere there is one of the finest settings for a wedding ceremony anywhere in Italy.
Medieval Cathedral, Piazza & Harbour
Amalfi town is the historic capital of the coast — a compact medieval city squeezed into a narrow valley, dominated by the Cathedral of Sant'Andrea with its black and white striped façade and its flight of wide marble steps down to the main piazza. Civil ceremonies take place at the Municipio, right on the harbour. Arrivals by boat, the fishing harbour in the background, the cathedral at the top of the square: Amalfi offers a particular combination of grandeur and working-port authenticity.
The Quieter Neighbour
Halfway between Positano and Amalfi, Praiano is less visited and more intimate — a small fishing town clinging to the cliff, with the narrow road running high above it and a series of terraced gardens descending to the sea. Private villa venues in Praiano offer more seclusion than the busier towns, and the views from the terrace are every bit as dramatic as anywhere on the coast. For couples who want the Amalfi experience without the crowds, Praiano is the answer.
Private Villa Venues Overhanging the Sea
The most distinctive Amalfi Coast wedding setting is the private villa terrace that projects over the edge of the cliff, with nothing but air and sea between you and the horizon. Ceremonies on these terraces feel unlike anything else in wedding photography: the officiant, the couple, the guests, and then directly behind them the whole of the Tyrrhenian Sea dropping away beneath. I know how to photograph these ceremonies so that the scale and the drama are fully visible.
Before the Peak Summer Heat
June is the sweet spot on the Amalfi Coast: warm and clear, the lemon trees heavy with fruit, the bougainvillea in deep scarlet and pink bloom, the sea already a deep saturated blue, and the coast not yet at the peak August congestion. The light in June is long and warm, with golden hour stretching well into the evening. Couples who want the full Amalfi experience at its most manageable — logistically and photographically — choose June.

Destination logistics experience, cliff venue knowledge, and a documentary eye for Italian coastal life.
I know the specific photography rules and access windows at key venues including Villa Rufolo in Ravello, the terrace venues above Positano and the municipal ceremony rooms in Amalfi town. This prevents surprises on the day and ensures the coverage flows without interruption.
The Amalfi Coast road is notoriously narrow and congested in summer — I plan arrival times and transfers carefully, and always recommend or use the boat taxis that run between the towns. These journeys are also photographically excellent: portraits on the boat with the coast rising behind you are some of the most distinctive images of the day.
Italian wedding celebrations have their own rhythm — the long arrivals, the family gathering before the ceremony, the aperitivo, the formal dinner, the dancing that goes on well past midnight. I am experienced photographing Italian weddings and understand how to move through each phase capturing the genuine emotion and energy.
I fly into Naples from the UK for Amalfi Coast weddings — a direct flight from several UK airports of around two and a half hours, then a scenic drive or ferry south. All planning is in English, handled directly between us, without intermediary agencies or language barriers.
The light on the Amalfi Coast at golden hour is extraordinary: warm and saturated, bouncing off the white walls and the Tyrrhenian Sea below. I plan the portrait session for the final 60 to 90 minutes of sunlight — cliff terrace, lemon-tree pergola, the boat on the water — to make the most of this particular quality of Italian coastal evening light.
Your Amalfi Coast gallery is delivered in full resolution within four weeks. Every image is processed to emphasise the warmth and saturation of the southern Italian light — deep blues, warm golds, the rich colours of the cliff and the sea as they genuinely appear at the end of a long Italian summer day.
Each offers something distinct. Positano is the most dramatic and photogenic — vertical, colourful and immediately recognisable. Ravello is the most refined and serene, with the Villa Rufolo belvedere offering perhaps the finest single view on the coast. Amalfi town has the grandest historic architecture and the best boat access from the sea. Many couples choose their town based on where they want to stay, then plan the ceremony venue around it — I happily work at all three and can advise based on your priorities.
Yes — Villa Rufolo is one of my most-photographed Amalfi venues. The belvedere there, with its cliff-edge terrace and the bay of Salerno stretching to the horizon behind the ceremony, is genuinely extraordinary. The venue has specific access rules and permit requirements, and I work alongside your wedding coordinator to plan the photography around these. Ceremonies at Villa Rufolo typically take place in late afternoon to catch the best light.
I use a combination of the coast road (for early coverage, before peak congestion), private boat taxis (which are genuinely excellent for photographing the coast from the sea), and walking through the town lanes where access is pedestrian only. I plan the day in advance with the couple and coordinator to ensure the photography coverage never relies on a road transfer during congestion hours.
May, June and late September are the best months. May has the full blossom, the freshest colours and manageable temperatures. June is peak season but still beautiful — warm, long evenings, the sea at its most vivid blue. In late September and October the coast empties dramatically, the light becomes golden and autumnal, and the lemon trees are still heavy. July and August are very hot and very congested, though the light and colours are still wonderful if you plan carefully.
Absolutely — and the Amalfi Coast is one of the most popular elopement destinations in the world. A small ceremony on a cliff terrace, a boat journey along the coast, portrait time in Positano as the sun goes down: these elopement days are among the most rewarding I photograph. See my dedicated Amalfi Coast elopement page for details specific to intimate ceremonies, or mention your plans when you enquire and I can build the right package.
