I'm Yana Skakun, a documentary wedding photographer based in Cambridge. I cover all of the UK — England, Scotland and Wales — without regional fuss or supplements for most of the country, and I travel across Europe for destination weddings and elopements. I want to be honest about what I am: one photographer who travels well, not a faceless agency "based everywhere". That matters. It means the person you meet on a video call is the person behind the camera on your wedding day, in the UK or abroad. My approach doesn't change with the postcode — I work quietly, capture the day as it genuinely unfolds, and hand you photographs that feel like your wedding rather than a staged set of portraits.

Destination weddings tend to be smaller, slower and more personal, and the light in southern Europe or the Highlands can be extraordinary. Do you cover both the UK and weddings abroad?+

Yes — I do both. I'm based in Cambridge and photograph weddings right across the UK without regional supplements, and I travel to Europe for destination weddings and elopements. The same documentary approach travels with me: whether you're marrying in a Cambridgeshire barn or on the Amalfi Coast, the photographs are honest, unobtrusive and true to the day.

How do destination travel costs work?+

For destinations within Europe — typically reachable by a direct flight of a few hours — my travel, including flights, accommodation for the nights surrounding your wedding and local transport, is quoted clearly within your package. I always give you a complete, itemised figure up front so there are no surprises. UK weddings outside my local area are quoted transparently at enquiry, with most of England covered without fuss.

What about the legal paperwork for marrying abroad?+

Each country has its own rules for foreign nationals, and some — Italy and France in particular — require advance notice and document legalisation. Many of my couples handle the legal registration at their local register office in the UK before travelling, then hold a symbolic or blessing ceremony at their destination. This removes the bureaucratic stress entirely. Where you'd prefer a full legal ceremony abroad, I can introduce you to local planners who manage the paperwork.

How far in advance should we book?+

For destination weddings and peak UK summer dates, twelve to eighteen months ahead is ideal, as I take a limited number of weddings each year to give every couple proper attention. That said, do get in touch even at shorter notice — elopements and off-peak dates can often be arranged more quickly.

Destination Wedding Photographer — a UK Photographer Who Travels, at Home and Across Europe

The phrase destination wedding photographer means two different things to different couples, and I cover both. For some, the destination is a beautiful corner of the UK — a Cotswolds manor, a Highland estate, a coastal venue in Wales — somewhere worth travelling to that isn't their home town. For others, it means a wedding abroad: Italy, France, Greece or Spain. Based in Cambridge, I work across the whole of the United Kingdom without the regional fuss many photographers attach to it, and I travel into Europe for destination weddings and elopements. This page is the single starting point for both.

Choosing a UK wedding photographer who travels has real advantages over hiring locally at the destination.
