The reason is straightforward: Ibiza has extraordinary natural beauty, a unique cultural identity — the Eivissenc culture of the island's rural interior — and the finest sunsets in the Balearics, the western coast facing completely open water and providing unobstructed views as the sun drops into the sea.
The island's heart is Dalt Vila — the old walled city at the top of the hill above Ibiza Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site of narrow medieval lanes, Renaissance fortifications and baroque churches with extraordinary views across the harbour to Formentera. This is the part of Ibiza that feels almost Moorish in its density and drama, and it provides one of the most powerful urban wedding photography locations in the Mediterranean. Dalt Vila (Upper Town) is Ibiza's medieval fortified city, enclosed within Renaissance walls built by Philip II of Spain in the 16th century and listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The narrow lanes within — Via Romana, Carrer Major, the Plaza de la Vila — climb steeply to the cathedral at the summit, and the ramparts provide panoramic views across the harbour, the salt flats and over to Formentera. For portrait sessions and elopements, Dalt Vila provides perhaps the most culturally resonant urban setting in the Balearics.

June on Ibiza
The Perfect Wedding Month
June is the ideal month for Ibiza weddings: the island is warm but not the fierce heat of high summer, the days are very long (sunset around 9:30pm in June), the tourist crowds are present but not the extreme August saturation, and the island is at its most naturally lush. The extended evenings mean outdoor dinners continue in the warm dusk, the golden hour lasts well over an hour, and portrait sessions in the late afternoon have the full luxury of time. October is the season's beautiful close — the island very quiet, warm, golden and reflective.

The UNESCO old city requires specific timing to photograph well — the lanes are narrow and the sun hits only certain positions at certain times. Morning visits to Dalt Vila before the day-trippers arrive, late afternoon sessions when the warm light catches the cathedral facade, and blue-hour dusk shots with the harbour lit below are all in my Ibiza location repertoire.

Is Ibiza suitable for a formal, elegant wedding or only for more relaxed celebrations?
Both. The island has the infrastructure and the venues for extremely elegant, formal destination celebrations — private villa estates with white-glove catering, floral design by world-level florists, and black-tie guest lists. It equally supports relaxed, bohemian multi-day finca celebrations in bare feet and flowing linen. The island's unique cultural identity accommodates an enormous range of wedding styles; what they all share is the extraordinary natural landscape and the sunset light, which make every celebration photographically spectacular regardless of formality level.
How is Ibiza different from Mallorca for a wedding?
Mallorca is larger, more varied in landscape, has the Serra de Tramuntana mountains and a more established wedding infrastructure. Ibiza is smaller, more intimate, more internally consistent in character — the whitewashed finca architecture, the stone pines, the western sunsets — and has a more concentrated sense of identity as a place. Mallorca weddings tend to be more formally organised multi-day affairs; Ibiza weddings tend to be more fluid and relaxed in format. Both are exceptional for photography, but produce quite different images in character.
What makes Formentera worth adding to an Ibiza wedding trip?
Formentera is the smallest and least developed of the inhabited Balearic Islands — a flat, pine-scented island of extraordinary natural beauty that lies just 30 minutes by ferry from Ibiza. Its waters are the clearest in the Balearics, its beaches entirely undeveloped, and its atmosphere is one of genuine remoteness. A pre-wedding portrait session on Formentera — the couple walking the Playa de Ses Illetes with turquoise water on both sides and nothing but sea and sky ahead — produces some of the most quietly spectacular photographs I take anywhere.
What is the Ibiza wedding season?
The main season runs May through October. June is my recommended peak — long days, warm weather, manageable crowds and the island at its most naturally beautiful. July and August are very busy and very hot, requiring all outdoor photography before 11am or after 6pm. September and October are the season's graceful exit — quieter, warmer in light quality than summer, and with the island returning to its private self. Some venues take November bookings for very intimate celebrations.
Can you photograph at sunset venues like Café del Mar alongside a private celebration?
For private celebrations, the ceremony and reception are at your venue — typically a private finca or villa — and that's where I focus entirely. For portrait sessions, I can work at separate locations before or after the main event, including any accessible outdoor location on the island. Iconic public locations on the western coast are used for pre-wedding portrait sessions the day before rather than on the wedding day itself, keeping the wedding day focused on the celebration.
