The Côte d'Azur — azure water, stone-pine silhouettes, the grandeur of Belle Époque palaces and the warmth of Mediterranean evening light — wedding photography for the most glamorous coastline in Europe.
The French Riviera runs for over 100 kilometres from Nice in the east to Saint-Tropez in the west — a continuous Mediterranean shoreline backed by the Maritime Alps, studded with villages perchés, Belle Époque hotel-palaces and the private estates of successive generations of European aristocracy and global wealth. It is one of the most historically glamorous destinations on earth, and it produces wedding photographs of extraordinary distinction: the clear azure water, the pine and palm silhouettes, the warm limestone light of the hills. Nothing quite looks like the Côte d'Azur.
I know the Riviera well — from the baroque churches of Nice's Old Town to the pine forests of the Esterel above Cannes, from the gardens of Cap d'Antibes to the extraordinary eyrie villages of the Grande Corniche perched 600 metres above the sea. Each part of the Riviera has its own character and quality of light, and I photograph each location with that specific quality in mind: the ochre and rose of Nice at dusk, the cedar and lavender of Cannes's hill venues, the theatrical marine light of Cap Ferrat.
My approach on the Riviera is always documentary — moving through the day as it unfolds, capturing the textures of this extraordinary place — and editorial for portrait sessions, using the late Mediterranean afternoon when the sun drops below the Esterel or behind the Maritime Alps and the entire coast turns amber and rose.
From the Baroque streets of Nice to the clifftop villages of the corniche — the Riviera offers unparalleled variety and distinction for destination weddings.
Nice-Côte d'Azur — the Capital
Nice is the Riviera's grandest city — a dense, colourful Mediterranean capital with an extraordinarily beautiful Old Town (Vieux-Nice), its Baroque churches, ochre-and-rose painted facades and a daily flower market. The Promenade des Anglais, lined with Belle Époque palaces and the iconic Negresco hotel, provides the city's famous seafront backdrop. Town hall ceremonies in the Old Town and receptions at the great seafront palaces are well established on the Nice wedding circuit.
Film Festival Glamour & Red Rock Landscapes
Cannes offers much more than its famous festival: the old hilltop quarter of Le Suquet rising above the bay, the extraordinary red-rock Esterel massif to the west — the most dramatic coastal landscape on the Riviera — and a series of hill venues in the pinewoods above the city with panoramic Mediterranean views. The Lerins Islands offshore (Sainte-Marguerite) provide a completely private boat-accessible ceremony location for the most intimate celebrations.
The Walled Town & the Great Villas
Antibes's old town is surrounded by Vauban ramparts overlooking the sea — one of the most beautiful historic settings on the Riviera for portrait walking sessions. The Cap d'Antibes peninsula to the south is lined with the great private villa estates of the Riviera — Villa Eilenroc, Villa Garoupe — some of which are accessible for events. The combination of the walled town, the gardens and the cape's extraordinary sea views makes Antibes one of the most varied venues on the entire coast.
The Most Glamorous Backdrop
Monaco's combination of the principality's famous skyline — rising tier upon tier from the harbour — with the Rock of Monaco above and the deep blue of the Mediterranean below creates a backdrop of concentrated glamour unlike anywhere else in the world. Civil ceremonies are not conducted in Monaco for non-residents, but the principality's settings — the Casino gardens, the Rock, the winding streets of the medieval Carré d'Or — are extraordinary for portrait work the day before or after a Riviera wedding.
600 Metres Above the Sea
The three corniches — Grande, Moyenne and Inférieure — run one above the other along the cliff face between Nice and Monaco, and the villages perchés on the highest road are among the most spectacular in France. Èze village, perched on a rocky outcrop 600 metres directly above the sea, with the ruins of a Saracen castle at its summit and a panoramic view from Nice to the Italian border, is the most extraordinary portrait location on the entire French coast. Nothing compares to it for sheer alpine-Mediterranean drama.
The Grand Estate Tradition
The Riviera's hills and headlands are studded with private château and villa estates — many within 20 minutes of Nice Airport — that provide all-in-one wedding venues of extraordinary quality: the ceremony in the formal garden, reception in the orangery or on the panoramic terrace, portrait session at golden hour with the Mediterranean visible below. Château Saint-Martin, Château de la Chèvre d'Or and Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild are among the finest estate venues in Europe.

Deep knowledge of the Riviera's locations, light and venues — combined with efficient UK-to-Nice connections and English-language planning throughout.
I know the Côte d'Azur from the old towns of Nice and Antibes to the clifftop villages of the corniche and the estate venues of the Cap. I understand the light at each location in different seasons and plan the shooting day to extract the most from each one.
The Riviera's light is warm and strong — sharp bluewhite in midday, honeyed and golden in the late afternoon. I schedule portrait work for the hour before sunset when the limestone hills and stone-pine silhouettes catch the warm raking light and the sea appears its deepest blue.
I have worked at the Riviera's major château and villa venues and understand their specific logistics: approach roads, ceremony positions, interior lighting conditions and the garden spots that produce the most distinct portraits. This experience translates directly into better photographs.
Nice Côte d'Azur Airport (NCE) is served by direct flights from over ten UK airports throughout the season, with flight times of under two hours. I arrive the day before every wedding for a venue recce and am fully prepared for the shooting day.
All consultation, planning, venue discussions and delivery are handled in English. Emails, phone calls, contracts — all direct and clear. For Riviera weddings that involve French venues with French administrative requirements, I help navigate and coordinate throughout the planning process.
Full-resolution images delivered within four weeks of your wedding day, processed to reflect the warmth and clarity of Riviera light — clear Mediterranean colour, warm limestone tones, the deep blue of the Côte d'Azur sea.
It depends on the scale and style. For a large celebration with maximum glamour and the best infrastructure, Nice or Cannes and the hill venues above them are the natural choice. For intimate celebrations that want extraordinary scenery without the resort bustle, the villages of the Grande Corniche — Èze above all — and the estate venues of Cap Ferrat and Cap d'Antibes offer something more exclusive and visually spectacular. I advise couples based on their specific venue choice and the aesthetic they are after.
Absolutely. Monaco is 20 minutes from Nice by train and I regularly photograph pre-wedding portrait sessions in the principality alongside a Riviera wedding. The Italian border is similarly close — Menton, Ventimiglia, and Seborga are all within easy driving distance for portrait work. Many couples extend the trip to include the Italian Ligurian coast (Portofino, the Cinque Terre) for an additional portrait session the day after the wedding.
France requires a civil ceremony at the local mairie (town hall) for a legally recognised marriage. Most couples combine this with a symbolic outdoor ceremony at their venue — the civil formalities one day, the symbolic celebration the next. The legal civil ceremony is often very beautiful and I photograph it as part of the wider story. I help couples navigate the French administrative requirements and connect them with local wedding planners who specialise in Riviera legal logistics.
May and June are ideal: warm temperatures, manageable crowds and the beautiful early-summer Mediterranean light — bright without the August intensity. September is equally excellent: the summer crowds thin, the light shifts to a warmer amber quality, and evening temperatures remain perfect for outdoor receptions. July and August are high season — very beautiful but hot and busy, which requires early morning and evening-only portrait scheduling to avoid the harsh midday light.
Yes. The Riviera hinterland — the Var, the Alpes-Maritimes and the Vaucluse — is extraordinary for weddings, with lavender fields, provençal hill villages and dramatic gorge landscapes within an hour of the coast. Many couples combine a coastal ceremony at a Riviera venue with a portrait session deeper in the Provençal interior. See my Provence wedding photographer page for more detail on the inland locations.
