Hampshire is one of England's most photogenic counties for weddings. From the ancient woodlands of the New Forest to the Georgian elegance of Winchester and the dramatic coastline of the Solent — there's a venue here for every couple and every style. Here are my favourite places to photograph.
The New Forest offers something genuinely rare: ancient woodland, open heathland, and roaming ponies — all within easy reach of Southampton and Bournemouth. For couples who want their wedding to feel like a fairytale retreat, the Forest delivers.
A Victorian Gothic mansion set in 40 acres of grounds within the New Forest National Park. The ornate architecture photographs magnificently — both the grand staircase for formal portraits and the forest paths for romantic couple shots. The arboretum, with its towering redwoods, is particularly beautiful in autumn.
An intimate country house hotel in the heart of Beaulieu village, with access to the stunning Beaulieu River and Palace House grounds. The combination of village charm, riverside settings, and National Motor Museum backdrop makes this one of the most versatile venues in Hampshire.
Set in the New Forest village of Brockenhurst, Careys Manor combines a beautiful walled garden with elegant interiors. The garden in particular photographs wonderfully in all seasons.
Winchester is one of England's great cathedral cities — and wedding photography here carries a weight of history and grandeur that's hard to match anywhere else in the country.
For couples marrying in the Cathedral itself, the nave provides one of the most dramatic ceremony backdrops in England. Post-ceremony portraits in the Cathedral grounds — with the medieval walls and the water meadows beyond — are simply spectacular.
A 17th-century country house just outside Winchester, set in 63 acres of parkland with an avenue of ancient lime trees. The tree avenue alone is worth the visit — for autumn weddings in particular, it's one of the most beautiful walking shots I've ever photographed.
A National Trust property in the Test Valley with a walled rose garden that blooms spectacularly in June. Not a traditional wedding venue, but couples marrying nearby often incorporate it for portrait sessions. The Abbey itself and the River Test provide stunning backdrops.
For couples who want something genuinely different — industrial chic meets heritage charm in this beautifully converted Victorian building. The exposed brick and period details photograph beautifully with the right lighting approach.
A Georgian manor with manicured grounds offering both indoor grandeur and outdoor space. The symmetrical architecture is perfect for formal wedding party portraits.
I've photographed weddings across Hampshire — from intimate New Forest elopements to grand Winchester celebrations — and I'd love to discuss how to make the most of your specific venue. Every location has its hidden gems and its challenges, and I can help you plan a timeline that captures both the grandeur of your setting and the intimacy of your day.

Look at the natural light at the time of day your ceremony will take place. Walk outside and consider where portraits will happen — is there an area with shade, a garden, a meaningful backdrop? Ask about vendor restrictions (some venues require you to use their preferred photographer list). Check logistics: where do guests park, where does the bridal party get ready, is there a bridal suite?
Popular venues book 18–24 months ahead, especially for peak season (May–September) Saturdays. If you're flexible on date and day of week, 12 months is usually sufficient. Always view a venue before booking — photos online rarely show the full picture of scale, light, or atmosphere.
Ask: what's included in the venue hire? Can you bring your own caterer? What are the noise restrictions and finishing times? Is there accommodation on site? What's the plan if it rains for outdoor ceremonies? What is the minimum and maximum guest capacity? Are there any vendor restrictions or preferred supplier lists?
Venue architecture, grounds, and natural light dramatically affect the quality of wedding photography. Beautiful venues with varied backdrops, good natural light in the key rooms, and outdoor space for portraits make the photographer's job much easier. When choosing a venue, visiting at the same time of day as your planned ceremony is helpful for assessing the light.
Natural light (large windows, north-facing rooms), textured backgrounds (stone walls, wooden beams, floral arrangements), varied outdoor spaces (gardens, courtyards, woodland, water features), and interesting architectural details. Venues that feel authentic to their setting — a barn that's actually rustic, a manor house with period features — photograph better than generic white box venues.
