Outdoor family portraits in Lincoln — the Cathedral backdrop, Hartsholme Park, and the open Lincolnshire countryside.
Lincoln Family Photography
Lincoln is one of England's most dramatic cities — built on a ridge that rises steeply from the flat Fens, topped by a medieval cathedral that has stood for almost a thousand years. Family photography here can be urban and architectural, or entirely natural — green country parks and wetland nature reserves sit just ten minutes from the city centre.
Every session is shaped by your family. Whether you want the grandeur of the Cathedral Quarter or a relaxed wander through Hartsholme at golden hour, Lincoln offers both in abundance.

Locations
Lincoln Cathedral & The Brayford Pool
Lincoln Cathedral is one of England's most dramatic backdrops — a medieval building that towers over the city. The cobbled street of Steep Hill and the Cathedral Quarter provide beautiful urban portrait settings with extraordinary history.
Hartsholme Country Park
A 217-acre park on Lincoln's western edge with a large lake, ancient woodland walks, and open meadows. Particularly good for golden-hour family portraits in autumn when the lakeside trees turn gold.
Whisby Natural Park
Former gravel pits transformed into a wildlife and water habitat — open lakes, sandy paths, and reed beds south of Lincoln. Quiet and wild-feeling, excellent for families with children who like to explore.
Riseholme Park
The parkland grounds of Bishop's Palace north of Lincoln — grand avenue trees, a lake, and open landscape. Slightly less known and therefore much quieter than the city-centre options.
Tower Estate & Carholme
The woodland and green space to Lincoln's west — informal woodland paths with dappled light through established trees, ideal for a roaming family session.
Sleaford & Spalding Surrounds
For families based in south Lincolnshire, the Fens and Sleaford surrounds offer open agricultural landscape, drainage channels, and wide skies — a uniquely Lincolnshire aesthetic for family portraits.
Lincoln's extraordinary setting
The city sits on a ridge like few others in England — the Cathedral visible for miles, and the Brayford Pool at its feet. This distinctiveness makes Lincoln a genuinely special backdrop for family photography.
Country parks within ten minutes
Hartsholme and Whisby are both within ten minutes of the city centre — so even a school-evening session is entirely feasible.
Relaxed sessions built around your children
No forced smiles, no rigid poses. Every session is led by the natural rhythm of your family — walking, exploring, the kids dictating the pace.
Heirloom print quality included
Every image is professionally edited for printing as well as digital display. Albums, wall prints, and framing are all available to add.
For a striking, characterful setting — the Cathedral area with Steep Hill and the Cathedral Close. For a relaxed outdoor session — Hartsholme Country Park, particularly in the hour before sunset. For a wilder feel — Whisby Natural Park.
Yes — the Cathedral Close and the surrounding streets are public spaces. Weekday mornings are the quietest times. The Cathedral grounds themselves may charge an entry fee if you enter the precinct.
Yes — I'm happy to travel to rural locations across Lincolnshire for an extended session. A travel supplement applies for distances more than 60 miles from Cambridge. Lincolnshire is well within that range from my base.
Light rain and overcast skies are actually great for photography — soft, even light and dramatic skies. We'll only postpone in heavy continuous rain or a full downpour.
Hartsholme Country Park has excellent tarmac paths and is pushchair-friendly throughout. Whisby has a mix of firm gravel and softer paths. The Cathedral area is cobbled — manageable but worth wearing comfortable shoes.
