England is a country of four genuinely distinct seasons — and each offers something beautiful and different for photography. The 'best' time depends entirely on what you want your images to look like.
Spring (March–May)
Cherry blossom and primroses in March, bluebells in April, wild garlic in May. Long evenings begin to return. The light is clean, colours are fresh and bright. The best season for Cambridge gardens and natural woodland sessions.
Early Summer (June–July)
Long golden evenings, wildflower meadows, and warm natural light. The most popular season for both families and weddings. Book early — demand is highest from May to August.
Late Summer (August)
Warm and long but can be very green, and English summers can surprise with grey stretches. August sessions in open countryside with high grasses can be beautiful.
Autumn (September–November)
My personal favourite season for family and couple photography. The golden and amber tones of deciduous woodland make everything look warm, rich, and beautiful. October is peak colour.
Winter (December–February)
Crisp air, bare trees with beautiful structure, frost on the ground, and the low winter sun that creates extraordinary long golden shadows. Empty landscapes, minimal distractions, and a quieter, more meditative quality to the images.
💡 The honest answer: there is no bad season for good photography. There's only bad light — and the solution to that is choosing the right time of day. Whatever season you book, I'll suggest the best time slot for your chosen location.
