Newborn Photography in Winter: Keeping Baby Warm

Winter newborn photography requires a few extra considerations — primarily around temperature, light, and travel — but it also offers some of the most beautiful shooting conditions of the year: soft, diffused natural light, cosy textures, and a sense of warmth that perfectly matches the feeling of a new baby at home in winter.

Keeping baby warm during a winter session

Babies cannot regulate their own temperature effectively, and this is especially true in the first two weeks of life. In winter sessions:

• ◆Room temperature should be maintained at 22–24°C throughout the full session
• ◆A portable heater pointed at the beanbag area is standard practice for location sessions
• ◆Warm wraps immediately available — baby should not be unwrapped for more than a few seconds before a warm layer is ready
