UK Elopement Locations

Cotswolds

Honey-stone villages, wildflower meadows, and rolling hills — the Cotswolds is perhaps England's most photogenic elopement setting. Bibury, Bourton-on-the-Water, and Burford are favourites.

Yorkshire Dales

Vast moorland, drystone walls, and medieval abbeys. Couples who want dramatic skies and complete solitude choose the Dales. Bolton Abbey and Aysgarth Falls are particularly remarkable.

Lake District

England's most majestic landscape — fells, lakes, and light that changes by the minute. Couple shoots on the shores of Ullswater or Wastwater produce images unlike anything else in England.

Cornwall

Rugged cliffs, turquoise coves, and ancient standing stones. Elopements on the Penwith Peninsula or at Prussia Cove have a wild, end-of-the-world magic that's impossible to manufacture.

The Peak District

Accessible from most of England, the Peaks offer varied landscapes — limestone dales, gritstone edges, reservoirs — within easy reach of major cities. Stanage Edge is iconic for a reason.

Scottish Borders

Ruined abbeys, ancient forests, and the first hills of the Highlands. Just over the border and already otherworldly — ideal for couples wanting Scotland's atmosphere without travelling far north.

UK Elopement Photography FAQs

Is eloping legally straightforward in England?+

Yes — you need to give notice at your local register office, wait 28 days, and then marry in any licensed venue or outdoor location with a registrar. Civil ceremonies can be held in licensed premises or outdoors with a humanist celebrant. I can recommend registrars and celebrants across the UK.

Can we have a few guests at an elopement?+

Absolutely. Many couples elope with 2–10 witnesses or close family. You benefit from an intimate, pressure-free atmosphere while still sharing the moment with important people. I tailor coverage accordingly.

How far in advance do we need to book?+

For popular locations and dates (spring and autumn in the Lake District or Cotswolds fill up fast), 8–12 months ahead is ideal. That said, I occasionally have last-minute availability for elopements — it's always worth asking.

Do you travel to Scotland?+

Yes. Scotland has some of the most spectacular elopement landscapes — Glencoe, Loch Ness, the Isle of Skye, Gretna Green. Travel to Scotland is included in the Full Elopement Day package; for shorter packages, a travel supplement applies.

What happens if the weather is terrible?+

We work with it. Some of the most extraordinary elopement images in my portfolio were taken in rain, mist, and dramatic cloud. I have weather-contingency plans for most locations. Only truly unsafe conditions (lightning on an exposed ridge) would prompt a reschedule.

Can you help plan where to elope?+

Yes — location planning is part of the service. Once I know what kind of landscape you love, your date, and approximate location, I can suggest specific spots, optimal times of day for light, and logistics. I know most UK elopement locations well.
