Bradford district takes in some of the most extraordinary landscape in Yorkshire — the Victorian mill towns of the Aire Valley (Saltaire's UNESCO World Heritage village and Roberts Park), the epic moorland above Haworth where the Brontës wrote, and the gritstone ramparts of Ilkley and Baildon Moors above the Wharfe Valley. Within 30 minutes of the city centre, families can reach landscapes that have barely changed in two centuries.

I photograph families with a gentle, documentary approach — following rather than directing, finding the real moments rather than constructing portraits. In Bradford's magnificent landscape, this means children running through heather, families walking the Roberts Park riverside, toddlers investigating the Cow and Calf Rocks at Ilkley. These are the photographs that last.

West Yorkshire has one of the most dramatic seasonal landscapes in England. Late August on the heather moors, autumn gold at Hardcastle Crags, spring bluebells at Shipley Glen — each season offers something distinctly different and beautiful.

What is the best Bradford location for a family photography session?+

Roberts Park in Saltaire is the most versatile and accessible Bradford location — the Victorian formal gardens, River Aire, mature tree avenues, and the UNESCO World Heritage industrial village backdrop give an excellent variety of settings. For something more dramatic, Baildon Moor above Saltaire rises from the park edge to open heather moorland within a 15-minute walk, giving a remarkable contrast of settings in a single session.

Can we photograph at Haworth Moor?+

Haworth Moor is one of the most extraordinary family photography settings in the north of England. The landscape Emily Brontë described in Wuthering Heights is genuinely elemental — vast heather moorland, dramatic skies, and the ruined farmhouse of Top Withens on the skyline. Late August when the heather is purple is the most beautiful time, but the moor in winter mist or after snow has a different, equally powerful quality. It is a 2–2.5 hour drive from most of the south of England.

Are Baildon Moor and Ilkley Moor suitable for families with young children?+

Yes — Baildon Moor and the lower slopes of Ilkley Moor are very child-friendly. The access paths are easy and there is open space for children to run. The Cow and Calf Rocks at Ilkley are a natural children's climbing playground and an iconic photographic backdrop. For very young children (under 2), Roberts Park and Shipley Glen are generally easier.

Do you cover Shipley, Keighley, and Halifax?+

Yes — I cover the whole Bradford district plus Shipley, Saltaire, Baildon, Bingley, Keighley, Haworth, and south into Halifax and the Calderdale valley. Travel within 25 miles of Bradford is included in session fees.

What time of year is best for West Yorkshire family photography?+

Late August on the West Yorkshire moors is unmatched — heather in full bloom, long evening light, and clear air. Autumn (October/November) at Hardcastle Crags gives spectacular golden and copper beech colour. Spring brings bluebells to Shipley Glen woodland. Winter moors under snow — particularly around Haworth — have a powerful, austere quality. Each season is genuinely distinctive in this landscape.
