Family photography is not one thing — it's many things, each suited to different family configurations, ages, and what you want to capture. Understanding the different session types helps you book the right experience and arrive with the right expectations.
Whether you're welcoming a new baby, celebrating a milestone, or simply wanting a record of how things look right now — there's a session type designed for exactly that.
Below is my complete guide to the main types of family sessions I offer, what each looks like in practice, and which is likely to be the best fit for your family.
In the first 2–3 weeks of life — posed sleeping portraits with beautiful wraps and props, or lifestyle documentary sessions at home. Both options are wonderful.
Sitter sessions (6–9 months) and first birthday (12 months) — documenting the first year of life at its key physical milestones.
Active, child-led outdoor sessions — woodlands, parks, meadows. These sessions follow the child's energy rather than trying to control it.
Grandparents, parents, children — the full family tree photographed together. These are deeply meaningful and sadly rare. Book them before circumstances make them impossible.
I photograph your family exactly as you are — breakfast in the kitchen, bathtime, bedtime stories. Real life, beautifully documented. No cleaning required.
A full family session built around an activity — a beach walk, a picnic, a woodland adventure. Natural and relaxed, not at all like a photo call.
