Fresh 48 Photography — Documentary Portraits in the First 48 Hours of Life
The first 48 hours after birth are some of the most extraordinary hours of any family's life — and among the most underphotographed properly. The hospital or birth centre environment, the first feeds, the first holds, the sleepy newborn curled against a parent's chest, the overwhelmed and radiant parents — all of this happens once and is gone. Fresh 48 photography documents these hours as they actually are: raw, emotional, beautiful and real.
Unlike a traditional newborn session booked for two weeks after birth, a Fresh 48 session takes place within the first one to two days — ideally on the day of birth or the following morning, while you are still in hospital or at your birth centre. The images are documentary rather than styled: natural light, minimal intervention, genuine moments. The baby is photographed as they actually are at this exact age — vernix still possible, cord clamp sometimes still present, all of the authenticity of new arrival.
What to Expect from a Fresh 48 Session
Sessions run 60–90 minutes at the hospital, birth centre or home. No preparation needed on your part — the entire point is to photograph you as you actually are. Yana works quietly around your rest, feeding and medical care, documenting the moments between without directing or interrupting. Images are delivered within one week as a private gallery of 40–60 fully edited photographs.
