NICU Photography UK — Gentle Documentation of Your Baby's Most Vulnerable Days
When a baby is born prematurely or requires intensive neonatal care, the days spent in the NICU are among the most frightening and exhausting of any parent's life. They are also, in their own way, extraordinarily precious — filled with small miracles, tiny hands, the fierce determination of a new human being to survive. NICU photography documents those days with the gentleness and sensitivity they deserve, creating photographs that parents carry with them for the rest of their lives.
Yana Skakun Photography approaches NICU and special care baby photography with the utmost care, discretion and respect for the medical environment. All sessions are coordinated with the nursing team to ensure they do not interfere with care. The photography is entirely non-intrusive: natural-light documentary work that captures the warmth and hope in what can appear, on the surface, like a frightening clinical setting.
What NICU Photography Captures
Tiny hands wrapped around a parent's finger. The kangaroo care hold. A sleeping face half the size of a palm. The tubes and wires that feel so overwhelming in person but, in a photograph, simply become part of the incredible story of a baby's fight. First feeds, first eye openings, first moments of skin-to-skin contact. All of the small, enormous milestones of the NICU journey that pass quickly and cannot be reconstructed.
How to Arrange a NICU Session
Please contact Yana as soon as you are ready. There is no pressure to book at a specific point in your baby's NICU stay — some families book early; others wait until their baby is more stable. All arrangements are flexible and entirely centred around what is right for you and your baby. Sessions are available across Cambridge, London and East Anglia, and travel further afield is available for families who need it.
