Natural elopement, wedding and portrait photography at Ullswater — outdoor sessions on the lakeshore, at Aira Force waterfall and across England's second largest and most beautiful lake.
Book a SessionUllswater is England's second largest lake — seven and a half miles long, with the fells rising steeply from the shoreline on both sides and a sinuous three-part shape that reveals new views at every bend. Wordsworth called it "perhaps the most beautiful of all the Lakes" and many who know Ullswater well agree: the combination of dramatic scale, intimate shoreline character, the extraordinary Aira Force waterfall and the relative quiet of its eastern shore (without Windermere's tourism infrastructure) makes it exceptional for portrait, wedding and elopement photography.
I photograph elopements, couples, families and weddings at Ullswater and across the Lake District — Windermere, Keswick, Grasmere, Coniston and across Cumbria. For elopement photography Ullswater is outstanding: the lakeside settings, the woodland at Aira Force and the hilltop viewpoints above Howtown offer intimacy, drama and natural beauty at very short walking distances from access points. I travel across the north of England for portrait and wedding sessions throughout the year.
Intimate elopement ceremonies for two at Ullswater — one of the most beautiful and less-visited of the major lakes. Lakeshore ceremonies, hilltop handfastings above Glenridding and woodland settings at Aira Force.
Documentary wedding coverage for Ullswater and the eastern Lake District — the Inn on the Lake at Glenridding, Sharrow Bay Country House Hotel (on the lakeshore) and the beautiful Cumbrian venues of the wider National Park.
Engagement sessions on the Ullswater lakeshore, at Aira Force waterfall (where Wordsworth frequently walked), on Hallin Fell viewpoint above Howtown and on the Striding Edge approach above Glenridding.
Natural outdoor family sessions on the Ullswater shoreline, at the National Trust Aira Force woodland, on the steamer landing stages at Howtown and Pooley Bridge and across the beautiful Eamont and Ullswater valley.
Individual portrait sessions in one of England's most scenic lake settings — the still water reflections, the fells rising directly from the shoreline and the extraordinary light quality of the eastern Lake District in morning and evening.
In-home lifestyle newborn sessions in Glenridding, Penrith, Windermere, Keswick and the surrounding Lake District and Eden Valley.
The southern head of the lake at Glenridding and Patterdale — the steamer pier, the delta of Grisedale Beck and the fells rising steeply on both sides. The still-water reflections of Helvellyn and Striding Edge in the lake are extraordinary.
The spectacular 20-metre waterfall at Aira Force on the western shore above Glencoyne Bay — the falls cascade through a wooded ravine with a romantic Victorian stone bridge arching overhead. One of the most photographed natural features in the Lake District.
The tiny hamlet of Howtown halfway up the eastern shore (accessible by Ullswater Steamer) — the ancient St Martin's Church at Martindale, the deer forest and the remote and extraordinary character of the least-visited part of the lake.
The small but perfectly positioned fell of Hallin Fell above Howtown — a short ascent to one of the finest viewpoints in the Lake District, looking north-west along the full seven-and-a-half-mile length of Ullswater to Pooley Bridge.
The northern end of Ullswater at Pooley Bridge — the handsome old bridge (rebuilt 2020), the Eamont Valley and nearby Dacre Castle (private, medieval tower house) and the pastoral landscape of the Eden Valley opening out to the north.
