Dedham Vale AONB — the part of the Stour valley on the Essex-Suffolk border that John Constable painted throughout his life — is one of the most painted and photographed landscapes in England. The reason is the light. Wide East Anglian skies over river meadows and ancient hedgerow lanes, with elm-like willows along the river bank, create a painting-like quality of natural light that is unlike anywhere else. Sessions here tend to produce images that feel quietly extraordinary.

Yes — the Full Session (2 hours, 2 locations) pairs Mersea Island with either the town's Roman walls and Castle Park or the Dedham Vale beautifully. The contrast between coastal and inland settings in a single shoot produces a much more varied and interesting set of images than using a single location throughout.

I cover Colchester and the north Essex and south Suffolk area — Ipswich, Bury St Edmunds, Chelmsford, Braintree, Witham, Clacton, Harwich, Halstead, and the Suffolk coast. Travel within 20 miles of Colchester is included in standard fees.

Yes — Mersea Island is connected to the mainland by the Strood causeway, which is passable for several hours on either side of low tide. Sessions need to be scheduled around tide times, which I will check and plan for when booking. The island's creeks, bobbing boats, and wide tidal views make it a wonderful and distinctive portrait location.
