The Moment You Can Never Restage
A proposal is one moment you genuinely cannot stage or recreate. The approach, the question, the realisation, the reaction — these seconds contain more genuine emotion than almost any other moment in a relationship. Having them properly photographed is one of the best decisions you can make.
I work entirely discreetly — your partner never knows I'm there until after the proposal is complete. Planning is confidential, positioning is seamless, and the photographs are extraordinary. Cambridge provides some of the most beautiful proposal backdrops in England.
The Process
You contact me — alone
Reach out confidentially. Your partner knows nothing. We discuss the plan, the location, the timing, and the logistics. Everything is kept completely private.
We plan the location
Some proposals have a specific location already in mind; others need suggestions. I know Cambridge's best spots for natural, discreet positioning — places where I blend in.
The day: I'm already there
On the day, I arrive before you and position myself discreetly. I look like any other visitor in the area — reading a book, checking a phone, looking at a view.
The moment
As you propose, I'm shooting continuously. The approach, the moment of realisation, the reaction, the embrace. Every second is documented.
Celebration portraits
After the shock has (slightly) settled, I introduce myself and we continue with celebration couple portraits — the happiness still fresh, the ring on finger.

Best Spots
King's College Bridge
The most romantic and recognisable spot in Cambridge — the Bridge of Sighs backdrop, punts on the Cam. Arrive early morning for fewer crowds.
The Backs at Sunset
The riverbank behind the colleges at golden hour — willow trees, reflections, and warm stone. This setting is simply extraordinary for proposal photography.
Grantchester Meadows
For something quieter and more intimate — meadow paths, the mill pond, apple orchards. Beautiful year-round, especially in spring and early summer.
Cambridge Botanical Garden
A licensed outdoor space with extraordinary variety. Rose Garden, Rock Garden, Lake — the whole season accessible in one location, relatively private.
Castle Mound
Cambridge's ancient earthwork with panoramic views over the colleges and city. Unexpectedly quiet and dramatic — excellent for proposals at sunset.
Your own favourite place
Somewhere that means something to you both — the café where you met, the street where you first walked together. Meaningful locations make the best proposal photographs.
Use the contact form below and note in your message that it's for a secret proposal. I'll reply directly to you. Alternatively, email me at hello@yana-sk-photo.uk. I never contact partners or mention bookings in any public way.
In public locations in Cambridge, a photographer shooting street scenes, landscapes, or portraits is completely unremarkable. I dress casually, use an inconspicuous bag, and position myself away from the direct line of sight. In years of proposal photography, I've never been noticed before the moment.
At least 2–4 weeks for planning and reconnassing the location. Popular dates around Valentine's Day, Christmas, and summer should be booked 6–8 weeks ahead. That said, I sometimes have last-minute availability — always worth enquiring.
We discuss contingency plans when we plan the proposal. Some proposals work in any weather; for others, we agree a fallback date or indoor alternative. I never want a bad weather day to ruin the moment or the photographs.
Absolutely — this is part of the planning service. I know which spots work best at which times of day, which locations provide the best sight lines for discreet photography, and which are reliably uncrowded.
Yes — travel within 50 miles is included in the Proposal + Portraits package. For further locations, a travel supplement applies. I've photographed proposals at London landmarks, Cotswolds villages, and beach locations.
