Graduation · Academic · Milestone
Cambridge is one of the world's most recognisable academic settings — the college courts, the Backs, the river, and the city's medieval architecture create a backdrop for graduation and senior milestone portraits that is frankly unrivalled. A portrait made in King's College grounds or on the Backs carries an instantly recognisable context that resonates far beyond Cambridge itself.
I am Cambridge-based and have photographed many students, graduates, and academics in the city — the college grounds, the river, and the city streets. Whether you need formal graduation portraits in academic dress or relaxed milestone images that capture the end of a chapter, I offer sessions designed for Cambridge's specific environment and light.

A moment of genuine achievement
A Cambridge degree or research completion represents years of sustained effort. The portraits from this moment carry weight precisely because of what they represent — documenting it well is worth the investment.
The world's most recognisable academic backdrop
King's College Chapel, the Wren Library, the Mathematical Bridge — Cambridge's architectural landmarks are known globally. A graduation portrait in these settings communicates something instantaneously about the achievement and the place.
Professional portfolio starting point
Many Cambridge graduates use their senior portraits as the foundation of their professional profile photography — LinkedIn, publications, and press bios. A session that produces both formal and approachable portraits gives maximum versatility.
Family heirloom quality
The parents, grandparents, and siblings of Cambridge graduates often want printed portraits from the graduation — large, beautifully printed images for walls and gifts. I provide print-ready files sized for everything from wallet prints to large canvas.
Locations
Cambridge College Courts
The college courts and grounds of Cambridge University — the Backs, King's College chapel lawns, Senate House Passage, Great Court at Trinity — provide the most recognisable and academically significant backdrops in the world for graduation and senior milestone portraits. I have photographed many Cambridge graduates and academics in these extraordinary settings.
The Backs & River Cam
The Backs — the gardens of six Cambridge colleges running down to the River Cam — create one of the most beautiful riverside portrait settings in Britain. Weeping willows, punting, and the college buildings reflected in the water create images that are unmistakably Cambridge.
Cambridge City Streets
Cambridge's medieval city centre — King's Parade, the Market Square, the Grafton Market area — provides urban Cambridge character for students who want something slightly less formal than the college lawns. Front Street, the Round Church, and the cobbled lanes near St Edmund's are all excellent portrait settings.
Botanical Garden
Cambridge University Botanic Garden provides one of the most beautiful portrait settings in the city — the glasshouses, herbaceous borders, rock garden, and lake all create exceptional imagery. Entry costs apply. Ideal for portraits that need a more natural, garden aesthetic than the stone college courts.
Yes — Cambridge graduation and degree ceremony portraits are a speciality. I photograph in full academic dress (gown, hood, mortarboard) in the college grounds and along the Backs. I offer extended sessions that include casual portraits as well as formal academic dress images, so graduates have a full range of portrait styles from the same session.
Cambridge degree ceremonies cluster in January and June. For June ceremonies, I recommend booking in March or April — graduation season is busy and Cambridge portrait dates book fast. January ceremony graduates should book in November or early December.
Yes — family members are welcome and often join for part of the session. The Full Milestone Session allows time for individual portraits as well as family group images. Parents often want portraits with their graduating child in college grounds — this is very easily accommodated within the 90-minute session.
Yes — I photograph faculty headshots and senior academic portraits for Cambridge University departments, research institutes, and independent academics. These sessions can take place in your department, in college, or at a neutral outdoor location. I provide images formatted for university websites, publications, and press.
King's College Chapel lawn and the Gibbs Building facade are the most iconic. Trinity's Great Court and Queen's College's Mathematical Bridge are extremely recognisable. For river shots, the Garret Hostel Bridge over the Cam and Clare College Bridge are both beautiful. On the Backs, the view from Trinity Bridge looking towards the avenue of limes is classic Cambridge.
