Brighton Alternative Weddings
Brighton has earned its reputation as the UK's most accepting and creatively vibrant city. Its culture of celebrating difference — in all its forms — makes it one of the finest places in the country for an alternative wedding. From LGBTQ+ ceremonies to gothic celebrations, from beach elopements to warehouse parties, Brighton has both the venues and the atmosphere to support genuinely non-traditional weddings.
I travel to Brighton regularly for alternative weddings and love the character of the city — the seafront light, the creative energy of the Lanes and North Laine, the range of unconventional venues, and the general joy of a city that has always welcomed the unconventional with open arms.
The pebble beach, the Palace Pier, the arches on the seafront — Brighton's coastline is extraordinary for alternative wedding portraits and beach ceremonies.
Brighton's warren of independent shops, street art, and bohemian character. The Lanes and North Laine provide extraordinary street-level wedding photography.
From Concorde 2 to the Green Door Store, Brighton has a wealth of music venues that host alternative weddings with genuine atmosphere and character.
Brighton's thriving arts scene means plenty of gallery spaces, studios, and creative venues that are natural homes for alternative and artistic weddings.
Brighton's ornate Victorian town hall is an extraordinary ceremony venue with architectural drama and history — perfect for couples who want character in their official ceremony.
Just outside Brighton, the South Downs offer wild, open landscape for alternative outdoor ceremonies and portraits against chalk hills and sea views.

Brighton has one of the UK's most vibrant alternative cultures — it's the home of Pride, has a huge LGBTQ+ community, a thriving arts scene, and a long tradition of welcoming people who don't fit conventional moulds. The local wedding industry reflects this, with many alternative-friendly venues, vendors, and a general atmosphere of celebration rather than convention.
Yes — Brighton beach ceremonies are some of my favourite wedding photography. The light on the south coast is extraordinary, the pebble beach creates a beautiful natural contrast with formal wear, and the atmosphere of the seafront always adds a joyful, free-spirited quality to the day.
Completely and unconditionally. Brighton has a large and vibrant LGBTQ+ wedding community, and I've photographed same-sex, queer, and gender-diverse weddings with the same care and artistry as any other. Every couple deserves photographs that reflect the genuine joy of their day.
