How Does a Secret Proposal Shoot Work?
A secret proposal shoot works like this: you contact me in advance, we plan the location and timing together, and on the day I position myself discretely nearby before you arrive. Your partner has no idea I'm there. I photograph the whole sequence — the build-up, the question, the reaction, the embrace — from a distance with a telephoto lens, completely unobserved, before stepping forward to introduce myself for closer engagement portraits.
The resulting photographs are candid in the truest sense — the absolute reality of the moment, completely unposed. These are almost always people's favourite photographs they've ever had taken.

Grantchester Meadows at golden hour
Best timing: Late afternoon May–September
The most romantic spot near Cambridge — wildflower meadows, the river Cam, and extraordinary evening light. A meadow proposal here is genuinely magical.
King's College / The Backs
Best timing: Early morning or mid-week to avoid crowds
The iconic Cambridge view — the college frontage reflected in the river. For a quintessentially Cambridge moment, it's unbeatable.
Wimpole Estate
Best timing: Any season
Grand National Trust parkland — sweeping avenues and formal grounds. A proposal here has an old-world romantic quality.
Cambridge Botanic Garden
Best timing: Spring or summer
Beautiful garden setting — enclosed, relatively quiet, and stunning in spring colour.
Punt on the River Cam
Best timing: May–September
The most classic Cambridge experience — a proposal on a punt on the river, with college architecture on both sides. Organise with a professional punting company.

Only 15 minutes from Cambridge — the cathedral grounds at dusk are extraordinary.

Contact me first
Reach out as early as possible — at least 2–3 weeks in advance. We'll discuss date, location, timing, and logistics over a brief call or email exchange.

Choose your location
Pick somewhere meaningful to you as a couple, or choose one of the Cambridge locations above. I'll visit the spot in advance to identify the best position for photographs.

Plan the timing carefully
I'll advise on the best time of day for light at your chosen location. Golden hour is always preferable if your schedule allows.

The day itself
I arrive 20–30 minutes early and position myself before you. You arrive naturally, I begin photographing. After the proposal I introduce myself and we continue with a short engagement shoot — usually 30–45 minutes.

You'll receive the full edited gallery of both proposal and engagement portraits within 10 working days. These are some of the most-shared, most-printed photographs I deliver.
