Cliffs of Moher, County Clare

Eight kilometres of sheer Atlantic-facing sea cliffs rising to 214 metres above the ocean — possibly the single most dramatic coastal landscape in the British Isles. The cliff path south from O'Brien's Tower reaches wilder and less photographed sections within a 20-minute walk. The cliffs face due west, so the light in the final hour before sunset is extraordinary: the rock face turns from grey to gold to amber as the sun drops. Autumn and winter mornings after storm-clearing bring a particular quality of light that summer rarely produces.

Dingle Peninsula — Slea Head

The Slea Head drive on the Dingle Peninsula delivers the most concentrated collection of dramatic Atlantic scenery in Ireland: sea stacks, abandoned Blasket Island visible across the sound, the ancient beehive huts of the Fahan promontory, and the village of Dunquin with the most westerly pub in Europe. The combination of the ancient landscape (there are over 2,000 recorded archaeological monuments on the Dingle Peninsula alone) and the Atlantic light coming in from the open ocean creates portraits with genuine depth and character.

Ring of Kerry — Skellig Coast

The Skellig Ring is a less-driven loop off the main Ring of Kerry between Cahersiveen and Waterville that crosses the Beara Peninsula to reach Portmagee and the viewpoint towards Skellig Michael — the extraordinary rock pinnacle rising 715 feet from the Atlantic with its 6th-century monastic cells intact on the south peak. The view from the Skellig Ring road across St Finan's Bay towards the Skelligs at sunset is one of the most affecting landscapes in Ireland. Boat trips to Skellig Michael (subject to weather and conservation quotas) can be arranged for an extraordinary ceremony location.

Connemara — Kylemore Abbey

Kylemore Abbey is a Victorian neo-Gothic castle built at the edge of Pollacapall Lough in the heart of Connemara — the mountains reflected in still water, the castellated facade, the walled Victorian kitchen garden. Behind it the bogland runs north into the Twelve Bens mountain range. Kylemore is now a working Benedictine abbey; portrait sessions on the grounds require prior arrangement. The drive north from Clifden into the Connemara bog with the Twelve Bens as a backdrop is extraordinary in any weather.

Giant's Causeway, County Antrim

The Giant's Causeway — 40,000 interlocking basalt columns formed by a Palaeocene volcanic eruption — is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most recognisable geological features in the world. The columns themselves are extraordinary as a portrait surface: hexagonal stepping stones running into the Atlantic. The coastal path east towards Dunseverick passes rope bridges, dramatic arches, and the most intact section of basalt cliff in the world. Northern Ireland's Causeway Coast is also within a short distance of the Antrim glens and a region of considerable landscape character.

Wicklow Mountains — Glendalough

The early Christian monastic site at Glendalough — a 6th-century round tower, roofless stone churches, and a carved high cross set at the edge of a glacial valley between two long lakes — is one of the most evocative and historically charged locations in Ireland. The upper lake, accessible only on foot from the valley car park, is flanked by dark conifer forest and backed by the quartzite flanks of Camaderry. Just an hour from Dublin, Glendalough combines genuine historical atmosphere with outstanding mountain and lake scenery.

Do you travel to Ireland for elopements?+

Yes — Ireland is very much within my regular travel range. Flights from London to Dublin, Cork, Shannon, or Belfast are short and inexpensive, and I treat Irish destinations as fully available for elopement enquiries. A travel supplement applies — typically £120–£180 covering flights and ground transport, confirmed in writing before booking.

What elopement packages do you offer for Ireland?+

My Irish elopement packages start at £950 for the Elopement Session (2–3 hours, 60–100 images) plus travel. The Elopement Full Day is £2,100 — up to 6 hours, ceremony coverage if applicable, and a full gallery within 2–3 weeks. The All Day Wedding package is £2,800 for full-day coverage. Travel costs are additional and confirmed separately.

Can we get legally married in Ireland?+

Ireland requires three months' advance notification for a legal ceremony. Most couples who travel to Ireland for an elopement either arrange a simple legal ceremony at a local register office (called a Civil Registration Service in Ireland) with a few days around it, or handle the legal element at home and have a humanist or blessing ceremony in Ireland. I can help you think through the logistics — this is something I've helped several couples navigate.

What's the best time of year for an Irish elopement?+

Ireland has a reputation for rain that is only partly deserved. May and June often bring settled weather with very long evenings — sunset at Slea Head in late June is not until nearly 10pm. September and October deliver that particular Atlantic clarity, autumn colour in the Wicklow glens, and dramatically reduced visitor numbers. Winter is often genuinely beautiful — the light at the Cliffs of Moher in January is something else entirely.

Can we include multiple Irish locations in a single trip?+

Absolutely — and it can make logistical and photographic sense to plan an Irish elopement over 2–3 days across multiple landscapes. Glendalough and the Wicklow Mountains are an hour from Dublin Airport; Dingle, the Skelligs, and the Cliffs of Moher can be combined over two days in Clare and Kerry; the Causeway Coast and the Antrim glens in a single long day from Belfast.
