Stoke-on-Trent is surrounded by extraordinary landscape — the restored Italianate grandeur of Trentham Gardens, the eccentric Victorian theatrical genius of Biddulph Grange, the open heathland of Cannock Chase AONB to the south, and the wild Staffordshire Moorlands and Peak District edge to the east and north. Within 30 minutes of the town centre, families can reach landscapes of dramatically different character for family photography sessions.
My approach is relaxed and documentary: I follow rather than direct, finding genuine moments rather than constructing portraits. The varied locations around Stoke lend themselves to this naturally — children exploring the themed garden rooms at Biddulph Grange, families walking the Cannock Chase forest paths, toddlers at the Westport Lake shoreline.
Staffordshire is particularly beautiful in summer and autumn. Trentham Gardens in full summer bloom, Cannock Chase in autumn gold — this is some of the finest family photography landscape in the Midlands.

Trentham Gardens is the most sought-after. The restored Italianate formal gardens, the huge lake, and the woodland walks offer a remarkable variety of settings — from grand formal avenues to quiet woodland paths and lakeside reflections. It is a full family destination in its own right, which means children are naturally happy and engaged. For something wilder, Cannock Chase AONB (25 minutes south) gives open heathland and forest.
Cannock Chase is excellent. The heathland areas around Birches Valley have an open, spacious quality with views across Staffordshire. The mixed pine and deciduous woodland has beautiful dappled light. Fallow deer can sometimes be seen at dawn and dusk. Autumn at Cannock Chase — when the bracken turns gold and the birch trees go yellow — is one of the most beautiful family photography settings in the Midlands.
Yes — Tittesworth Reservoir is beautiful for family photography: still water reflections, moorland backdrop, and the distinctive Roaches gritstone ridge above. It is particularly beautiful on calm mornings with mist on the water. The Roaches themselves (the dramatic gritstone crags above) are more challenging terrain for very young children but spectacular for older children and teens.
Yes — I cover all of Stoke-on-Trent, Newcastle-under-Lyme, Stafford, Stone, Uttoxeter, and into Crewe and south Cheshire. Travel within 25 miles of Stoke is included in session fees.
Summer (June–August) at Trentham Gardens is magnificent — the formal gardens in full bloom, warm evening light on the lake. Autumn at Cannock Chase is one of the finest in the Midlands. Spring at Biddulph Grange has unusual exotic plant interest. Winter sessions at Tittesworth Reservoir with snow on the Roaches skyline are dramatic and memorable.
