Natural, relaxed family photography in Royal Tunbridge Wells and the Kent High Weald — outdoor sessions in the beautiful Victorian parks and the spectacular sandstone landscape around the town.
Book a Family SessionRoyal Tunbridge Wells is one of Kent's most beautiful and prosperous towns — a spa town of elegant Regency and Victorian character, surrounded by the ancient sandstone landscape of the High Weald AONB. The town's parks — Calverley Grounds, Dunorlan Park, and the wider Common — are exceptional outdoor portrait settings, and the broader High Weald landscape (High Rocks, Groombridge Place, Bewl Water, Sissinghurst) offer outstanding variety for family sessions throughout the seasons.
I specialise in natural, relaxed family photography — sessions that feel more like a pleasant walk than a formal photoshoot. I work at the children's pace, encouraging play and real interaction rather than posed lineups. The result is a set of images that genuinely captures your family as you are right now — authentic, warm and beautiful. I photograph families across Tunbridge Wells, Tonbridge, Sevenoaks and the broader High Weald and Weald of Kent area.

The beautiful Victorian park at the heart of Tunbridge Wells — formal gardens, lawns, a bandstand and mature trees create a quintessential English park setting with the town's distinctive architecture behind.
The large Victorian pleasure grounds in the south of the town — ornamental lake, glasshouses, parkland and the beautiful Italianate formal gardens. Outstanding for late-afternoon family portraits.
The wooded valley running south from the Common — scrub, heathland and ancient woodland edge create a wilder and more natural portrait setting outside the formal park character of Calverley and Dunorlan.
The ancient sandstone outcrops at High Rocks, Groombridge — privately owned but open to visitors; dramatic rocks, ancient oaks and the wooded High Weald character make it one of the area's most distinctive portrait settings.
Tunbridge Wells' elegant 17th-century colonnade — the colonnaded walk, raised pavement and characterful independent shops create a beautiful urban portrait setting with a strong historical character.
Golden hour — one hour before sunset — gives the most beautiful, warm and flattering light for outdoor family portraits. For Tunbridge Wells sessions I recommend the late afternoon in spring, summer and early autumn. The parks are beautiful in any season, including winter.
Calverley Grounds suits families who want a classic English garden setting; Dunorlan Park is perfect for families with children who love running (great lake views); Happy Valley and the Common are better for a more natural, forest feel. I'm happy to advise based on your family's character and the age of your children.
Co-ordinated but not matching outfits generally work best — a base colour palette of 2–3 tones that complement each other. Avoid large logos or very bright clashing patterns. I'll send a style guide with booking confirmation.
Absolutely. Extended family sessions with grandparents and multiple family groups are something I particularly enjoy — the Extended Family package at 90 minutes gives plenty of time for everyone.
