Oxford's largest and most iconic open space — 300+ acres of ancient common land grazed by horses and cattle, with the Thames running alongside. Wide-open off-lead walking, huge skies, and in winter the flooded meadow creates striking mirror reflections. My most-recommended Oxford location for dog photography.
South Park
A large grassy hill on the eastern edge of the city centre with genuinely spectacular views over Oxford's dreaming spires. Popular with dog walkers, largely off-lead, and particularly beautiful in golden-hour light with the skyline as a backdrop.
Shotover Country Park
Ancient woodland, heathland and meadow on the city's eastern edge — one of Oxford's best spots for varied terrain, dappled woodland light and off-lead exploring away from the busier central parks.
Aston's Eyot
A quieter, semi-wild nature reserve near Iffley, bordered by the Thames and the Cherwell. Overgrown paths, riverside light and far fewer people make it a good choice for nervous or easily distracted dogs.
University Parks
Formal parkland along the River Cherwell close to the city centre, with mature trees, open lawns and river views. Dogs are welcome on leads throughout, making it a good option for calmer, walking-pace portrait sessions.
