Blackburn is East Lancashire's principal town — once the world's foremost cotton weaving town, now a diverse modern city with a cathedral, a significant university at UCLan's Burnley campus nearby and a substantial professional and business community. The town sits between the West Pennine Moors to the south (with Darwen Tower and the open Access moorland above Darwen), the Ribble Valley to the east (one of Lancashire's finest landscapes with Pendle Hill, Clitheroe and a cluster of excellent country house hotels) and the flat Lancashire plain to the west.
Within a short drive of Blackburn town centre, Hoghton Tower (one of Lancashire's finest fortified houses), Witton Country Park, Whalley Abbey and the extraordinary Ribble Valley countryside offer a remarkable range of outdoor portrait and wedding photography settings.
