Photography on London's iconic South Bank — weddings, engagement sessions, portraits and events against the Thames skyline and the cultural quarter from Tate Modern to Tower Bridge.
London Thames Riverside Photography
London's South Bank stretches for almost two miles along the Thames from Westminster Bridge to Tower Bridge — a near-continuous sequence of some of the most photogenic urban backdrops in the world. The Southbank Centre, National Theatre, Tate Modern, OXO Tower, Borough Market, Butler's Wharf, Shad Thames, Tower Bridge: each has its own photographic character, and together they create a photography canvas that is essentially unmatched in any city in the world.
I photograph couples, families and individuals on the South Bank for engagement sessions, wedding portraits, anniversary photography and personal portraits. The South Bank is one of London's most active and vibrant public spaces, which means timing and positioning matter enormously to create images that feel intimate rather than crowded. I know the riverside intimately — the quiet moments, the best light angles, the less-travelled spots between the major landmarks that give photographs their sense of private discovery in a very public city.
For weddings, the South Bank offers some of London's most distinctive venue choices: Tate Modern's industrial grandeur, the 1930s Art Deco elegance of the OXO Tower, Sea Containers London's Design Hotel setting, the Coin Street neighbourhood venues, and Southbank Centre's Festival Hall — where the concrete terraces and the riverfront terrace create an almost architectural backdrop for wedding portraits. I photograph at all of these venues and know their spaces, light patterns and camera positions in depth.
I also photograph events for South Bank institutions — press conferences and launches at the National Theatre, BFI premieres, gallery openings at the Tate, corporate events at the Oxo Tower — clean, press-ready images delivered within 48 hours. The South Bank is a year-round photography location; I work here in every season and at all times of day, and the winter golden hour along this stretch of the Thames in late November is genuinely one of London's most extraordinary photography experiences.
