Cambridge
Completely hidden. Genuinely candid. The moment documented as it actually happened.
Secret Proposal Photography
A proposal is one of the few moments in life that happens exactly once — the raw, unrepeatable reality of a question asked and answered. With a hidden photographer in place, that moment becomes photographs you'll show your children and grandchildren.
Cambridge is one of the most beautiful places in England for a proposal — Grantchester Meadows at golden hour, the river views at The Backs, the grandeur of the Botanic Garden in spring. I know all of these locations intimately and will help you choose the perfect setting, then photograph the whole story completely undetected.
The Process
01
Contact Me
Tell me your approximate date and idea. We plan the exact location, timing, and approach together over a quick call or email exchange.
02
Location Scouting
I visit or review the proposed location in advance to identify the perfect hidden position for undetected photography.
03
I Arrive Early
On the day, I position myself 20–30 minutes before you arrive. Your partner has no idea I'm there.
04
The Moment
I photograph the entire sequence — the approach, the moment of the question, the reaction, the embrace — from a comfortable distance with a telephoto lens.
05
Engagement Portraits
After the proposal, I introduce myself and we continue with an engagement portrait session while the emotion is still raw and real.

Where to Propose
Grantchester Meadows
Golden hour, May–September
The most romantic spot near Cambridge — wildflower meadows, the river Cam, and extraordinary evening light. Often the first choice for sunset proposals.
The Backs / King's College
Early morning or mid-week
The iconic Cambridge view — punts on the river, ancient college architecture. Go early to avoid tourist crowds.
Cambridge Botanic Garden
Spring or summer
Beautiful enclosed garden setting — quieter than the city centre and stunning in March–September when planting is at its best.
Wimpole Estate
Any season
Grand National Trust parkland 7 miles from Cambridge — sweeping avenues, formal grounds, and a romantic quality in every season.
Anglesey Abbey
Autumn or winter garden
National Trust estate near Lode — remarkable in autumn colour and winter with its specialist winter garden.
Ely Cathedral Grounds
Late afternoon
15 minutes from Cambridge — the cathedral grounds at dusk, or the riverside meadows nearby.

I use a long telephoto lens (200–400mm) and position myself at a natural distance that doesn't raise suspicion — a bench, a parked car nearby, the edge of a pathway. I wear casual clothing and stay completely unobtrusive until the moment is done.
In over 50 proposal shoots, this has happened once — and even then, they didn't realise what was happening until after the proposal. I'm very experienced at staying undetected. If it did happen, we'd improvise naturally.
At least 2–3 weeks in advance is ideal. For peak season (May–September), 4–6 weeks is better to ensure availability on your chosen date.
Golden hour (1–2 hours before sunset) gives the most beautiful, dramatic light. For Cambridge specifically, this means evening proposals in summer work beautifully at Grantchester or The Backs.
No — I cover all of Cambridgeshire and regularly work at unusual or personal locations chosen by the proposer. If you have a meaningful spot in mind, let's talk through whether it works logistically.
The Proposal + Engagement package includes a 30–45 minute engagement session immediately after the proposal. The Proposal Only package covers just the proposal itself, but you can add on an engagement session if the mood takes you.
