No white dress. No church. No formal schedule. No requirement to do what weddings are supposed to look like. Just documentary coverage of what you actually built.
Most wedding traditions are much younger than people assume. White wedding dresses became fashionable in the mid-nineteenth century. The specific sequence of events that constitutes a conventional wedding — ceremony, drinks reception, dinner, speeches, cake, first dance — was largely assembled by the wedding industry over the twentieth century. The expensive venue, the lavish florals, the requirement for a certain number of photographs in a certain style — all invented, all marketed, none of it actually necessary.
Anti-traditional couples understand this. They are making conscious decisions to keep what genuinely matters — the commitment, the celebration with the people they love — and discard the rest. If that's you, then the photography should work the same way: honest, documentary, focused on what actually happened rather than what you're supposed to carry away from a wedding.
