London Wedding Photography
Golden royal parks, amber candlelit venues, the warm rich light of October and November. London in autumn is magnificent.
Enquire About Your DateLondon in autumn is among the most visually compelling places to photograph a wedding in the world. The plane tree avenues in Hyde Park turn golden from mid-October. Richmond Park's ancient oaks and bracken glow amber in the low afternoon sun. The chestnut trees in Greenwich Park have been dropping their leaves since the eighteenth century onto the same paths beneath them. And London's extraordinary collection of historic interiors — candlelit halls, warm-panelled rooms, glasshouses and orangeries — are at their most atmospheric in autumn.
I cover autumn weddings across London — from city-centre venues close to the River Thames to park weddings in Richmond and Kew, from Shoreditch warehouse receptions to Richmond Hill estates. The seasonal character of London changes what is possible photographically, and October and November offer a visual richness that no other season matches in the city.
My approach throughout is documentary: watching and capturing what is genuinely happening, in the light that is genuinely present. The warmth of autumn makes every London venue more intimate.
The capital's parks, gardens, and riverside settings are extraordinary through October and November.
The avenue of plane trees in Hyde Park is one of London's most spectacular autumn sights — cathedral-like archways of gold and amber that last through October. The Long Water and Serpentine provide reflective backdrops in low autumn light.
Richmond Park's ancient oaks and chestnuts create deep pools of autumn colour through October and November. The deer herds move through the bracken, and the views from the hill over amber woodland are outstanding. The park is 30 minutes from central London.
Parliament Hill at golden hour in October looks across London with the city's skyline beneath low autumn clouds. The woodland areas of the Heath are brilliant gold into November, with ancient oaks and sweet chestnuts dropping their leaves.
The Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew is one of the finest venues in London for autumn foliage — the Japanese garden, the lake, the Victorian glasshouses with golden trees behind them. Kew Gardens also hosts weddings, making it a complete venue.
Syon Park's grounds west of London contain mature specimen trees — many planted in the eighteenth century — that are spectacular in autumn. The setting is more rural than Hyde Park with a sense of grandeur appropriate for autumn estate weddings.
The ancient Spanish chestnut trees in Greenwich Park are particularly magnificent in autumn — some of the oldest trees in London, with deeply fissured bark and enormous golden canopies. The Observatory Hill gives views across the Thames towards the city.

Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens peak in mid-October with the plane tree avenues at their most golden. Richmond Park follows from late October through November with ancient oaks and chestnuts. Hampstead Heath and Greenwich Park both have excellent colour from mid-October. Kew Gardens has the most varied autumn palette due to its botanical collection.
Low autumn light in London is actually beautiful for wedding photography — warm, directional, and dramatically different from the harsh overhead light of summer. I plan the couple portrait session for the golden hour (approximately 4-5pm in October, 3-4pm in November) and use the long shadows and warm tones the angle of autumn sun creates against London's architecture.
For autumn atmosphere, venues with strong interior character — candlelight, warm wood panelling, fire — are exceptional: venues like Kew Gardens, Holland Park, Somerset House, Syon Park, and many of the historic halls of the City. These settings combine the warmth of autumn interiors with access to park or garden foliage for outdoor portraits.
Yes — London is one of my primary areas of work alongside Cambridge. I have photographed autumn weddings across central and outer London, and I know the specific seasonal character of the parks, venues, and riverside settings that make October and November London weddings so visually distinctive.
Yes. Autumn marquee and outdoor weddings in London work well in October, when temperatures are still reasonable and light is excellent. I have experience with marquee and garden venues across south and west London, and I understand the specific lighting challenges and opportunities of outdoor evening receptions in autumn.
