I mix directed group portraits — everyone facing the camera, properly composed — with more informal activity-based direction: walking together, talking, laughing at something specific, any shared activity that's part of the friendship's actual texture. The formal shots will be the ones you use for prints and sharing; the informal ones will be the ones you love most.
