One of the quieter traditions in wedding photography is the parent album — a smaller version of the couple's own album, given to the parents of the bride and groom as a thank-you gift. It is a deeply considered present, and for parents who lived the day on an entirely different level of emotion from the couple, it can mean an enormous amount.
Parents at a wedding are doing many things at once: looking after guests, managing logistics, trying not to cry during the ceremony, and wishing they could simply stand and take everything in. They often feel they did not get to see as much of the day as they would have liked. A parent album gives them the whole day back — every significant moment, presented beautifully.
A grandparent who cannot use a phone gallery, a parent who prints nothing digital — for them, a physical album is the only format that guarantees the photographs will be seen again and again.
Parent albums are typically smaller than the main couple's album — often 20 by 20 cm or 25 by 20 cm rather than 30 by 30 cm or larger. They usually contain a curated selection of around 30–50 images drawn from the full gallery, with particular emphasis on the portraits that include the parents themselves: the first look between a father and daughter, the moments before the ceremony, the family formals, and the reception farewell.
The design approach for a parent album is generally calmer and more traditional than the main album. Generous white space, clean spreads, and classic typography work well. The emphasis is on clear images and warm presentation rather than stylistic flourishes.
Your photographer can design the parent album to coordinate with your own album — same binding style, same paper finish, but smaller format and different image selection.
Parent albums are typically ordered at the same time as the main couple's album, during the album design process. Adding a parent album at this stage adds little to the design timeline. Ordering one long after the wedding is possible but takes more co-ordination. The most straightforward approach is to include parent albums in your initial album order.
Parent albums can be added to any wedding collection. Get in touch to discuss sizes, formats, and pricing.
