Where to shoot in Cardiff
Bute Park
130 acres alongside the River Taff and adjacent to Cardiff Castle — the arboretum, formal borders, castle towers visible above the treeline, and the river walk under ancient willows. One of the finest city centre parks in the UK.
Roath Park Boating Lake
The iconic lighthouse memorial on the Scott of the Antarctic lake, the rose garden, the formal glasshouse borders, and the Victorian park layout — classic, beautiful, and very photogenic.
Cardiff Bay & Mermaid Quay
The Senedd, Wales Millennium Centre, and the Penarth pier visible across the water — a modern, architectural, and aspirational backdrop that photographs well at golden hour and blue hour.
Pontcanna Fields
The popular riverside meadows between Pontcanna and Llandaff — wide open, green, and used by Cardiff couples all year round. Simple and beautiful in its lack of complexity.
Llandaff Cathedral
The Norman cathedral set in its cathedral close beside the River Taff — a remarkably intimate and beautiful setting, quieter than you might expect and very photogenic in low light.

The medieval village reconstruction and lakeside woodland at Cosmeston, near Penarth — 20 minutes from the city centre and genuinely beautiful as a countryside alternative to the urban parks.
Questions
Do you travel to Cardiff for couples sessions?
Yes — Cardiff is a city I travel to for both couples and wedding photography commissions. A travel supplement of £95 applies. I'd suggest booking 3 weeks in advance to allow time for planning and weather-watching.
We feel uncomfortable being photographed — is that going to show?
Almost every couple says this before the session and very few feel it five minutes in. I use natural movement prompts rather than formal posing — walking together through Bute Park, looking at the lake together — and the images come out feeling genuinely relaxed and like you.
What's the best season for a couples session in Cardiff?
Spring brings blossom to Bute Park and the rose garden at Roath comes into its peak in June. Summer evenings on the Bay give extraordinary long golden light. Autumn turns the Bute Park arboretum to copper and amber. Llandaff Cathedral has a particular moody beauty in winter mist.
Can we do the session near the Brecon Beacons instead of Cardiff?
Yes — the Brecon Beacons are 45 minutes from Cardiff and I offer elopement and couples sessions there. Pen y Fan, Sgwd yr Eira waterfall, and the Brecon Beacons reservoir landscape are all extraordinary.
