York
Natural, unposed couples portraits in York — the Museum Gardens and abbey ruins, the medieval city walls, the River Ouse, and the ancient streets.
Engagement sessions
York's medieval streets and ancient walls give engagement portraits a timeless quality that's hard to replicate anywhere else. Perfect for save-the-dates and wedding websites.
Anniversary portraits
York rewards revisiting. Whether it's where you first visited together or where you got engaged — an anniversary session here becomes part of your shared story of the city.
Just because
You don't need an occasion. Most couples have remarkably few photographs of themselves together that they'd actually hang on a wall. A session in York gives you those.
Valentine's Day gift
A couples session in one of England's most romantic cities — the Shambles, the river, the ruined abbey at dusk — makes a genuinely extraordinary Valentine's gift.
One fee covers the session, all editing, and your full image gallery — no hidden extras. A travel supplement of £80 applies for York.

Every session includes
Museum Gardens & St Mary's Abbey
The ruined 12th-century Benedictine abbey within the Yorkshire Museum gardens — one of the most photogenic medieval ruins in England, with the Multangular Tower and wide lawns. Particularly beautiful at golden hour.
York City Walls
The most complete circuit of medieval walls in England — the elevated walkway gives sweeping views over the rooftops, Minster towers, and the Shambles below. Dawn and dusk light here is extraordinary.
River Ouse & Riverside Walks
The willows trailing into the Ouse south of the city, Lendal Bridge, the riverside gardens of Museum Gardens — the river gives York a gentler, more intimate side to set against the medieval drama.
Rowntree Park
The Edwardian park beside the Ouse — a rose garden, riverside meadows, and a quiet café lodge. Unpretentious and beautiful, particularly in the evening when the light comes low through the trees.
The Shambles & Stonegate
The medieval overhanging buildings of the Shambles and the lantern-hung lanes of Stonegate — best in early morning before the tourist trade begins, when the light on the old timber frames is extraordinary.
Beningbrough Hall & Gardens (NT)
Eight miles north of York — the baroque country house with its walled kitchen garden, parkland, and formal lawns. One of North Yorkshire's finest National Trust properties as a backdrop.
Do you travel to York for couples sessions?
Yes — York is a destination I visit regularly and love photographing. A travel supplement of £80 applies. I'd recommend booking 2–3 weeks in advance, particularly for early morning sessions in the Shambles or Museum Gardens.
We feel nervous about being photographed — is that going to show?
Almost every couple feels this way and very few feel it after the first few minutes. I use movement-based prompts rather than traditional posing — walking through the museum gardens, looking at something specific together — and the images end up feeling natural and genuinely you.
What's the best season for a couples session in York?
Spring brings blossom to the gardens and bluebells to nearby woodland. Summer evenings have long golden light on the Minster stone and the terraces. Autumn turns the parkland mist and amber. Winter in York — frost on the cobbles, the walls cleared of tourists — has a particular moody beauty that photographs extraordinarily well.
Can we do an early morning session before the city gets busy?
Yes — for sessions in the Shambles, the Museum Gardens, or on the city walls, early morning is strongly recommended. The light is better, the city is quieter, and the atmosphere is incomparably more intimate. I'm happy to meet at 7am for a sunrise session.
How long until we receive the photos?
