East Park · Beverley Westwood · Humber Bridge · East Yorkshire Wolds
Hull sits at the junction of two landscapes of remarkable photographic quality. To the north, the East Yorkshire Wolds — England's most underrated chalk downland — offer open valleys, wide skies, and deep rural perspectives that remind you of the South Downs but without the crowds. To the south, the Humber Estuary and its bridge dominate the horizon with a scale and drama that is entirely their own.
Beverley Westwood, a 15-minute drive north of Hull, is one of the finest family portrait locations in Yorkshire: 650 acres of genuine medieval common grazing land, entirely open, with views that reach across the plain to the towers of Beverley Minster. Children run free on the Westwood in a way that is increasingly rare near any city.
I photograph families with a relaxed, unhurried style — following the children, reading the light, making photographs that feel like your family in East Yorkshire rather than somewhere generic.

Beverley Westwood is my first choice for East Yorkshire family sessions — 650 acres of open medieval common grazing land with complete freedom of movement and wide, luminous skies. East Park is the best city option for Hull families with small children. The Humber Bridge Country Park gives dramatic architectural backdrop. And the East Yorkshire Wolds are exceptional for extended or golden hour sessions.
Yes — the Westwood is entirely open common land, free to access, and perfect for family photography. The wide-open chalk pasture, the distant views of the minster towers, and the native woodland edges make for varied and beautiful sessions. Cattle graze freely on the Westwood in summer but are calm and accustomed to people.
Yes — the Humber Bridge Country Park on the north bank provides chalk cliff paths and native woodland walks with the bridge visible across the estuary. It is dramatic and distinctive. For closer views, the north viewpoint above the bridge towers gives a powerful architectural backdrop.
Yes — I cover Hull, Beverley, Driffield, Bridlington, Hornsea, Goole, and the East Yorkshire Wolds broadly. Sessions throughout East Yorkshire are available with travel included within 25 miles of Hull city centre.
The East Yorkshire Wolds are stunning in late summer (July-August) with ripening crops and wide dry skies, and in autumn with the chalk downland turning golden. Beverley Westwood is beautiful year-round. Flamborough and the coastal locations are best in the long summer evenings. East Park is excellent in spring when the flowering trees are in bloom.
