Sheffield is the greenest city in England — a third of its area lies within the Peak District National Park boundary. For family photography this means extraordinary variety within a very small distance: lush river valleys, open moorland, ancient woodland, and Victorian parkland all within 20 minutes of the city centre.
Endcliffe Park and the Porter Valley are the heart of Sheffield family life — Sunday mornings, birthday picnics, the first walk with a new baby. Rivelin Valley is wilder, a hidden moorland river gorge that most people outside Sheffield have never heard of. On the high edges above Hathersage, Stanage gives views of a completely different kind: open gritstone moorland stretching to Kinder Scout.
I photograph families with a relaxed, unhurried approach — following the children, finding the genuine moments, letting the landscape do what it does. No forced smiles, no rigid standing arrangements. Just your family, moving through a place you love, photographed as you actually are.

Sheffield has a remarkable variety of photographic environments within a very small geographic footprint. You can photograph in lush river valleys (Rivelin, Endcliffe), open gritstone moorland (Stanage Edge), Victorian parkland (Crookes Valley), and then be standing on the Chatsworth Estate deer park within 30 minutes. No other city in England places you quite so immediately at the edge of truly wild landscape.
Yes — both parks are very family-friendly with gentle paths that pushchairs and young children can navigate easily. Rivelin Valley has a little more uneven terrain along the river path but is entirely manageable. Both have excellent woodland and water elements that children naturally engage with.
Absolutely — Stanage Edge and the other gritstone escarpments above Hathersage, Bamford, and Castleton are strong session locations. They are dramatic and characterful, and children love the open space and rocky terrain. I regularly photograph families on the edge of the moors.
Yes — I cover South Yorkshire, including Rotherham, Barnsley, and Doncaster, as well as North Derbyshire locations near the Peak District boundary. Sessions across South Yorkshire are available with travel included within 25 miles of Sheffield.
Spring and autumn are exceptional. Endcliffe Park's wild garlic in April-May and its golden autumn canopy in October are both extraordinary. Stanage Edge in heather season (August) is stunning. Golden hour in summer (7-9pm) at Rivelin Valley gives magical light.
