Bournemouth · Dorset · Jurassic Coast
Hengistbury Head · Sandbanks · Studland · New Forest Edge
Bournemouth sits at the meeting point of three extraordinary natural landscapes: the Dorset Jurassic Coast to the west, the chalk heathland and dunes of the Isle of Purbeck to the south, and the New Forest to the north. The result is a remarkable variety of outdoor portrait settings within a thirty-minute drive of the town centre — from dramatic coastal cliff paths at Hengistbury Head and the sand spit at Sandbanks to the open New Forest heathland and the wooded Avon Valley.
Maternity sessions here have a quality of coastal and heathland light that is genuinely special — wide sky, sea-reflected softness, and the particular clarity of air that comes from an Atlantic-facing coastline. I photograph all year round and know the locations well enough to find the right light at any season.

28 to 34 weeks is ideal — the bump is beautiful and you are still comfortable for gentle coastal and heathland walks. The Dorset coast is stunning year-round: spring and early summer see yellow gorse on Hengistbury Head; late summer gives long golden light across Poole Harbour; autumn on the New Forest heathland is extraordinary with copper bracken and purple heather; winter light on the coast is wide and clear.
Yes — though beach sessions work best at golden hour (the last 45–60 minutes before sunset) when the light is soft and directional rather than harsh overhead. Hengistbury Head and the Studland heathland behind the dunes give beautiful cliff-top settings with the sea as backdrop that work across more of the day.
I cover Bournemouth, Christchurch, Poole, Wimborne, Ringwood, and a wide area of Dorset, Hampshire, and the New Forest. Locations on the Jurassic Coast (Swanage, Corfe Castle, Durdle Door) are achievable for extended sessions. Travel within 25 miles of Bournemouth is included.
Hengistbury Head is a dramatic Iron Age promontory between Christchurch Harbour and Christchurch Bay — heathland and cliff-top walking above the sea with the Isle of Wight visible on clear days. The light at sunset, with the headland silhouetted against the Channel horizon, makes for extraordinary maternity portraits unlike anything available inland.
