When is the best time for a maternity session in Durham?

Between 28 and 34 weeks is ideal — the bump is beautifully prominent and you are comfortable for outdoor walking between locations. Durham is beautiful all year: the Cathedral riverbanks are green and lush from spring through autumn, and Hamsterley Forest has wonderful moody light in autumn and winter.

Can we photograph at the Cathedral and river in Durham?

The riverbanks along the River Wear beneath Durham Cathedral are among the most iconic and beautiful portrait settings in the North of England. The wooded path along the river gives a natural, intimate feel with glimpses of the Cathedral towers above. This is my most requested Durham location for maternity sessions.

What is Hamsterley Forest like for a maternity session?

Hamsterley Forest in the Durham Dales is a large mixed woodland with quiet forest tracks and occasional clearings. The light filtering through the canopy is naturally diffused and flattering. Sessions here have a peaceful, secluded quality that contrasts beautifully with the more urban Cathedral setting.
