Natural In-Home Lifestyle Newborn Photography
Durham is one of England's most striking cities — the cathedral and castle rising above a loop of the Wear, surrounded by a remarkable collection of Victorian and Edwardian domestic housing. Gilesgate has long terraces of Victorian brick and stone housing running east from the cathedral hill; Newton Hall and Framwellgate Moor have broader Edwardian and mid-century suburban streets; the medieval city centre has narrow-fronted townhouses with unexpected interior light.
Newborn lifestyle photography in Durham is about your home, your family, and this completely unrepeatable period of your lives. I work with the natural light in your rooms — whether that's a north-facing hallway in a stone terrace or a bright modern kitchen — to document the real texture of your first days as a family of three, four, or more.
Durham has a distinctive domestic character — Victorian terraces in Gilesgate, Newton Hall, and Framwellgate Moor; stone-built nineteenth-century housing close to the cathedral peninsula; modern family homes in the surrounding suburbs. The combination of stone walls and northern light creates beautiful, quiet interior tones.
I photograph what is actually happening — the weight of a newborn in arms, the first look from an older sibling, the late afternoon light through a bedroom window. No poses, no props, no asking anyone to adjust their smile.
Partners, siblings, grandparents who happen to be there on the day — all part of the story. The more natural the scene, the better the photographs.

Turnaround
I cover Durham city and the surrounding County Durham area — Chester-le-Street, Consett, Stanley, Bishop Auckland, Spennymoor, Crook, Barnard Castle, and into south-east Northumberland. I also cover Gateshead and the southern suburbs of Newcastle. Travel within 20 miles of Durham is included in standard fees.
All of them — honestly. Victorian terrace houses in Gilesgate with their narrow-fronted rooms have a beautiful quality of side light. Detached houses in the suburbs tend to have open-plan ground floors with more space. Newer builds often have large windows with excellent natural light. I adapt to whatever your home offers.
Booking during your second trimester is ideal. This gives flexibility to confirm a date close to your due date. Newborn lifestyle sessions work best in the first 14 days, but I'm flexible up to around six weeks.
Studio sessions involve props, wraps, beanbags, and posed sleeping poses — beautiful but artificial. Lifestyle sessions happen at home, with real family moments and natural light. The images have a warmer, more personal quality and often feel more meaningful to families when they look back years later.
