Derbyshire Newborn Photography
Derbyshire is a county of great contrasts — the ancient market town of Bakewell, the former mill town architecture of Matlock, the Regency spa character of Buxton, and the industrial-heritage city of Derby. In all of these settings, the first days of a new baby's life unfold in a home with its own character, its own light, its own feeling.
Lifestyle newborn photography documents exactly this: your family, your home, your first days. No studio props, no artificial positions — just the real, warm, exhausted, extraordinary beginning of a new life.
The Approach
Peak District homes and light
Derbyshire has some of England's most varied domestic settings — stone cottages in the Peaks, Victorian row terraces in Chesterfield, modern suburbs in Derby. Rural Peak District homes in particular are extraordinary for natural light photography: farmhouses with north-facing windows, converted stone barns, and classic upland cottages all create distinctive light.
Documentary, not posed
No props, no posing, no studio. These sessions capture the actual first days — your baby sleeping, feeding, being held, being met by siblings. Everything that is genuinely happening in your home, in natural light.
Reserve from 20 weeks
The ideal session window is 5–14 days after birth. Book provisionally during pregnancy and we confirm once your baby arrives, adapting flexibly around the realities of the first week.

I cover all of Derbyshire including Derby, Chesterfield, Matlock, Buxton, Bakewell, Belper, Ilkeston, Long Eaton, Glossop, and all the Peak District villages from Castleton and Hope Valley through to the White and Dark Peak.
Peak District homes are often among the most beautiful settings for newborn photography in England. Old farmhouses and stone cottages have thick walls with deep-set windows that produce remarkable soft, directional light. The quality is exceptional.
5–14 days after birth. This is when the deep newborn sleep, curled posture, and the quality of absolute earliness are fully present. Book provisionally from around 20 weeks pregnant.
Yes — I travel regularly to the East and West Midlands and the Peak District. Travel is included in the Derbyshire session price for most locations.
Absolutely — siblings, grandparents, and wider family meeting the new baby for the first time produce some of the most powerful and cherished images from a newborn session.
