Bourne is a historic Lincolnshire market town on the edge of the fens — birthplace of Hereward the Wake and, a millennium later, racing driver Jim Clark. The town sits at the boundary between the limestone belt that runs north–south through Lincolnshire and the flat fenland extending east, giving it an unusual landscape diversity. Bourne Wood to the west is one of the finest ancient woodlands in Lincolnshire; the Bourne Eau chalk stream provides unusual wetland fringe settings; and the town itself has fine historic buildings including the priory church and the Elizabethan Red Hall manor house.
