Weddings at Burghley House, portraits on the Georgian stone streets — photography across Stamford and the Lincolnshire–Rutland border.
Book a SessionStamford Photography
Stamford is one of England's finest stone towns — the complete, largely unaltered Georgian townscape of Portland limestone, the five medieval church spires, and the Welland meadows running beneath Burghley's parkland walls combine to form a location of rare photographic richness. I photograph weddings, families, portraits, and corporate commissions across Stamford and the Lincolnshire border area, working with the town's exceptional natural light, architectural character, and green settings.
Burghley House — Lord Burghley's late-Elizabethan palace on the southern edge of the town — is one of England's great wedding venues. The parkland, designed by Capability Brown, forms a landscape of specimen oaks, the deer park, and the serpentine lake that can be used for wedding portrait sessions on the morning of a ceremony or for relaxed lifestyle shoots after the formal reception. The state room interiors, with their exuberant Baroque painted ceilings, provide a wedding photography setting of unequalled grandeur north of London.
For portrait and family sessions without the scale of Burghley, the Welland meadows at Hudd's Mill, the walled orchard at Wothorpe, or the open limestone grassland at Barnack Hills and Holes are all within fifteen minutes and provide pastoral, naturally lit alternatives that suit documentary-style family photography particularly well.
I travel to Stamford regularly from my Cambridgeshire base. For wedding enquiries, family sessions, or corporate photography in Stamford and the surrounding area, please use the enquiry form below — I reply within 24 hours with availability and a quote.
Photography Locations
Elizabeth I's Lord Treasurer built this Elizabethan palace on the edge of Stamford — its parkland and service ranges provide one of England's greatest wedding settings.
Stamford's centre — St George's Square, St Martin's, Barn Hill — is a UNESCO World Heritage candidate offering unspoilt Georgian limestone streetscapes.
One of England's oldest coaching inns, on High Street St Martin's, licensed for weddings and providing a warm, intimate interior portrait setting.
The willow-fringed Welland meadows at Hudd's Mill and Wothorpe give pastoral riverside settings for informal portrait and family sessions.
Five medieval churches within the town walls — All Saints, St Mary's with its famous spire, St John's — provide architectural drama and intimacy for ceremony photography.
Stamford doubled as Meryton in the 2005 Pride & Prejudice and as Middlemarch — its streets convey an immediacy of English history that enriches every photograph.

Common Questions
Yes — I cover Stamford and the surrounding Lincolnshire and Rutland area regularly. Stamford is approximately 35 miles north of Cambridge, and I travel there for weddings, portrait sessions, and commercial commissions without travel surcharge for most bookings.
For weddings, Burghley House is exceptional — the parkland, the Elizabeth gateway, and the outdoor spaces of the house provide a world-class wedding setting. For portrait sessions, the lanes behind St George's Square, the Welland meadows near Hudd's Mill, and the cobbled approach to St Mary's are all excellent.
Burghley House is licensed for civil ceremonies and holds weddings in its historic state rooms and grounds. I work at Burghley House regularly and am familiar with the access arrangements and the best photographic positions throughout the ceremony and reception sequence.
Yes — as well as outdoor locations I work with Stamford-based studios and private venues. The Welland meadows, Burghley Park deer park, and the town streets themselves provide natural light settings that suit my documentary portrait style well.
I offer wedding photography, family portrait sessions, children's photography, headshots and personal branding, corporate and event photography, and bespoke portrait commissions throughout Stamford and the Lincolnshire area.
