Histon and Impington are neighbouring villages three miles north of Cambridge city centre — part of the North Cambridge green corridor that links the city to the Cambridgeshire countryside. The villages have their own strong character: a thriving local community, historic orchard country, the remains of fruit-growing heritage, and the remarkable Impington Village College — the Walter Gropius-designed building of 1939, one of the finest pieces of mid-century European modernist architecture in Britain.
As a Cambridge-based photographer, Histon and Impington are among the most natural areas for me to work. I cover portrait sessions, family photography, wedding photography, and professional headshots throughout the North Cambridge villages — Histon, Impington, Girton, Oakington, Longstanton, Bar Hill, and the villages along the A14 corridor — without additional travel charges.
The North Cambridge landscape has an underrated photographic quality. The transition from orchard country to open fields to the city edge creates a variety of settings — green and intimate in the village, wide and atmospheric in the countryside, dramatic and iconic when we step south into Cambridge itself. Histon is 3 miles north of Cambridge city centre — about 10 minutes by car or bike. This makes it ideal as a base for portrait sessions: the village and its surroundings offer excellent local settings, and Cambridge's iconic college backdrops are a quick drive south if you'd like them as part of your session. I cover both locations without any additional travel charge.
What outdoor portrait locations do you use near Histon?+
The Recreation Ground and the orchard fields around Histon are my first choices for a village feel. Milton Country Park (5 min south) is excellent for woodland and lakeside portraits. The Cambridge Guided Busway meadow corridor gives open countryside with wildflowers in summer. For maximum variety, we can start in Histon and move to Cambridge city for the golden hour.

Yes — I photograph weddings in Histon, Impington, and throughout South Cambridgeshire and North Cambridgeshire. St Andrew's Church in Histon, as well as hotel, pub, and private venue weddings in the village and nearby areas. I'm familiar with the area and happy to discuss any specific venue.
Can you photograph at the Impington Village College?+
The Walter Gropius-designed Impington Village College (1939) is a nationally significant piece of modern architecture and its grounds are a genuinely distinctive portrait backdrop. Use of the grounds for photography depends on the school's availability — I'd recommend checking with the college directly for private sessions there.

Family portrait sessions start from £195 for a 90-minute outdoor session with a gallery of 30+ edited images. Full session galleries, extended coverage, and additional prints or albums are available. I'll be happy to send you a full current price list when you get in touch.
