Small weddings — ten guests, twenty guests, just the two of you — allow a quality of presence that large weddings can't achieve. You can actually spend time with every person there. The food can be extraordinary because the numbers are manageable. The venue can be genuinely unusual because you don't need a 200-person barn. The photography is more intimate because there's less crowd to navigate and more depth to find.

I particularly enjoy photographing small weddings for exactly these reasons. Micro-weddings and elopements allow me to slow down, follow the emotional thread of the day more closely, and capture a quality of intimacy that gets diluted in larger celebrations.
