Sessions are short by design. They work beautifully for young children with limited patience, for couples who want updated portraits without committing to a full engagement shoot, and for families who want annual images without full session cost. Limited slots available each summer.

Grantchester Meadows

Riverside wildflower meadows and willow trees — the quintessential Cambridge summer backdrop. Accessible by punt or a short walk from Newnham.

The Backs, Cambridge

The classic Cambridge July setting — punts, weeping willows, and college stone glowing in evening light. Magical for couples and families alike.

Wandlebury Country Park

Ancient hilltop parkland with open grassland, woodland edges, and wildflower paths. Space for children to run, beautiful natural light.

Milton Country Park

Lakes, meadow paths, and mature woodland just north of Cambridge. Easily accessible from the A14 with good parking.

Anglesey Abbey Gardens (NT)

Formal gardens and open parkland. Summer dahlias and herbaceous borders provide extraordinary colour backdrops in July and August.

Summer Mini Sessions FAQs

When in summer are mini sessions available?+

I typically run summer mini sessions from late June through August, scheduling dates when the light is at its best — usually evenings (6pm–8:30pm) to capture golden hour. Exact dates are announced 4–6 weeks ahead; sign up to the waitlist to be notified first.

What if it rains?+

I monitor forecasts carefully and only confirm sessions when conditions look good. If weather deteriorates unexpectedly on the day, I will offer a full rebook to the next available date or a full refund.

How do I book?+

Enquire below with your preferred session type and any date preferences. I'll add you to the waitlist and confirm your slot as soon as the next round of dates is confirmed — this is usually 4–6 weeks in advance.

Can I book multiple slots — for example, a family session and a couple session on the same evening?+

Yes — consecutive slots on the same evening are possible. Many couples book a couples slot followed by a family slot to cover both. A small discount applies when booking two slots together.

What should we wear?+

Summer palettes — soft linen tones, sage green, dusty blue, warm white. Avoid bright white (overexposes in sunlight) and very busy patterns. Relaxed layers work well for summer evenings which can be variable.

Do you travel outside Cambridge for summer mini sessions?+

Summer minis are primarily run in Cambridge and nearby Cambridgeshire locations. For sessions further afield, a bespoke mini session can be arranged — please enquire.

Summer Family Mini Sessions Cambridge — Outdoor Portraits in Long Evening Light

Summer mini sessions run throughout June, July and August in outdoor locations across Cambridge and the surrounding Cambridgeshire countryside. The long evenings of the English summer — light until 9pm in June and well past 8pm through July — create extraordinary golden-hour conditions from around 7pm, making early evening the most popular session time for families with young children who are still reliably cooperative in the warmth and light.

Yana Skakun Photography’s summer family sessions are 30–45 minutes in length, relaxed and documentary in approach, set in meadows, parkland, woodland edges, river paths and other outdoor locations chosen for their natural beauty and their quality of light in the long summer evening. Sessions deliver 20–25 natural images per family, with editing to match the warm, bright palette of the season.

Summer Session Locations Near Cambridge

The best summer photography locations near Cambridge include Grantchester Meadows and the river path, the wildflower meadow areas of various Cambridge parks, Wandlebury Country Park, the grounds of Wimpole Estate, and several private farmland and parkland locations. All sessions are timed for late afternoon or early evening light to make the most of the long summer days.

Summer sessions work best with light, airy fabrics in soft and natural tones — cream, white, pale blue, sage green, warm terracotta — that complement the green and gold of the summer landscape.
