Brunch weddings are quietly brilliant. The format is simple: morning ceremony (civil or humanist, usually), then a brunch reception — proper food, good coffee, bottomless something, and rather than the afternoon fading into the long mediocrity of a traditional wedding timeline, everyone is home by mid-afternoon having had genuinely the best possible time.

Morning light is also the most beautiful light available to a photographer. The quality of early-day sun — soft, directional, warm without the harsh contrast of midday — creates naturally gorgeous portraits without any artificial manipulation. Brunch weddings have the best light almost by default, which is one of the reasons I enjoy photographing them.
