The Fylde Coast offers a remarkable variety of maternity photography settings within a very small area. The Art Deco formality of Stanley Park's Italian gardens; the wide, clean sands at Lytham St Annes with views across the estuary; the windswept dunes and marram grass of the coast; the Georgian elegance of Lytham Hall's parkland — each is a completely different world for portraits.

Further afield, the Forest of Bowland AONB and the West Pennine Moors provide wild, dramatic backdrops for sessions with a more expansive feel. I photograph maternity sessions across Blackpool and Lancashire, working in natural light at the times of day when the coastal and moorland light is at its most beautiful.

When is the best time for a maternity session in Blackpool?

Between 28 and 34 weeks is ideal — the bump is beautifully defined and you are still comfortable for outdoor locations. The Fylde Coast is atmospheric year-round; winter sessions at Lytham with a low coastal light are striking, while spring and summer sessions in Stanley Park are at their most vibrant.

Can we photograph on the beach at Lytham or Cleveleys?

Yes — the Fylde Coast beaches are wonderful for maternity sessions. Lytham St Annes has wide, clean sands with a quieter feel than the central Blackpool front; Cleveleys Promenade has a more open, wild quality with long views. Both work beautifully in late afternoon or golden-hour light.

What makes Stanley Park special for maternity portraits?

Stanley Park is one of the finest Art Deco public parks in England. The Italian formal gardens have a symmetry and elegance that provides a beautiful setting, and the rose gardens in summer are exceptional. The woodland paths around the lake give a more natural, atmospheric feel for portraits.
