Mothering Sunday Photography — Mini Sessions for Mums, Grandmothers and Families
Mothering Sunday photography sessions are among the most emotionally meaningful portrait sessions in the annual calendar — a specific, intentionally chosen occasion to photograph a mother or grandmother with her children or grandchildren, to mark the relationship rather than simply capturing it in passing. Unlike birthday or holiday photography, Mothering Sunday sessions are deliberately arranged as a gift or tribute to the mother in the family, which gives them a particular tone of warmth and intentionality.
Yana Skakun Photography runs a limited series of Mothering Sunday mini sessions each year in early to mid March, timed around the Sunday itself. Sessions are 30 minutes and take place at a selected location — typically a garden, parkland or indoor setting with good natural light — and deliver 15–20 natural portraits of the mother or grandmother with her family. These sessions make perfect gifts: a booking can be made by a partner or by adult children for their mother.
Gift Bookings for Mothering Sunday
A Mothering Sunday portrait session is one of the most thoughtful and personal gifts for a mother — more lasting and more meaningful than flowers or chocolates, and producing something that can be printed, framed and kept permanently. Gift bookings are straightforward: the purchaser pays and receives the booking confirmation to present as the gift, with the session details to follow from Yana directly once dates are confirmed in February.
Grandparent Sessions
Mothering Sunday sessions are particularly popular for grandmother photography — three or four generations in a single portrait session, creating images that record the family at a specific moment that cannot be recaptured. Yana approaches these sessions with care and patience, working at a pace that is comfortable for older family members while ensuring the full warmth and connection of the multi-generational group is present in the images.
