Live action photography that captures the full power, speed, and drama of competitive sport in Cambridge and across Cambridgeshire
Live Action
Sports photography is a technical discipline as much as a creative one — fast lenses, precise timing, reading the flow of a race or game, and knowing exactly where to position yourself for the strongest shot. I apply these skills across all the sports I photograph in Cambridge and the wider county.
My images are used by sports clubs and associations for social media, membership communications, press releases, sponsorship reports, and club archives. I understand the commercial and communicative needs of a sports organisation and deliver accordingly.
Cambridge is uniquely rich in sporting heritage — the rowing Bumps traditions, the University athletic clubs, the excellent road racing scene, the school sports tradition. I am deeply familiar with all of it.
Sports Covered
Cambridge's great sporting tradition — the Bumps, Fairbairn Cup, May Bumps, and club events on the Cam. I know the river, the turns, and exactly where to be for the strongest shots.
Road races, track events, cross-country — fast shutter, reading the field, anticipating the decisive moment. I photograph running events from the start line to the finish and every hard-earned stride between.
Road races, criteriums, sportives, and charity rides across Cambridgeshire's flat fenland terrain. High-speed panning, peloton shots, and the decisive moment of a sprint finish.
Football, rugby, hockey, cricket — working around a pitch environment, capturing the peak action of tackles, goals, and triumphs for clubs, leagues, and school teams.
Sponsored runs, fun races, obstacle courses, and charity sports days. Documentation for press coverage, social media, and fundraising reports that demonstrate impact.
The egg and spoon, the sack race, the 100m — every heat, every finish line, every face of pure determined joy. School sports day coverage parents absolutely love.

Questions
I use professional telephoto lenses (up to 400mm) which allow me to capture tight action from a distance without interfering with the event. I shoot at high shutter speeds (1/1000s and above for fast action) and use professional-grade camera bodies with fast autofocus systems capable of tracking athletes in motion at high frame rates.
Yes — multi-venue events and course events like road races or cycling routes are standard commissions. I will plan checkpoint positioning in advance, scout the route, and identify the visually strongest capture points to ensure a varied and complete set of coverage.
All images are delivered in both high-resolution print-ready format and compressed web/social-media-optimised versions. For events with press need, I can expedite delivery of a selection of images within an hour of the event for same-day publication.
Very well indeed. I have photographed rowing on the Cam extensively and I know the course, the bank positions, and the lighting at different times of day. The Bumps, Fairbairn, May Bumps, and ad-hoc club events — I am very comfortable with the river environment.
Yes — a season package is one of the most cost-effective ways to document a club or school sports programme. I block-book your fixture list in advance at a discounted per-event rate, ensuring consistent visual coverage that builds into a genuine archive. Please enquire for a seasonal quote.
